i went to the grocery store tonight, the jewel down on milwaukee and paulina. as i was walking around, i found myself whispering the names of the foods i saw... "pickles... hot dogs... donuts...." i guess it's been about six months or so since i've been to a real grocery store. is that gross? probably.
i can remember when my father and i were really poor, living in southwest d.c., when we would go to the store and just walk around. i had no idea what that meant, but my father told me later that we were too broke to afford most of the food. so we would just walk around and look at it.
all my life, i've been totally transfixed in grocery stores. i can lose hours just walking up and down the aisles, only to leave with four rolls of toilet paper or some orange juice.
i guess that's an "idiosyncrasy."
