A couple of good things today.
First of all, I managed to score two great new (to me) lenses for my camera. I've had this super crappy 22-55/4-5.6 Canon lens since I bought my camera (d30) last year. It's a great zoom-range, but it's a POS lens. Anyhoo.. Back to the new (to me) ones. I'm a total whore for buying used gear, and I...

we had a five bedroom cottage... if i'd known sooner you could have been our beach boy!
Good news: I got a big 'ol raise at work, and it's retroactive back till Febuary.
Bad news: I hate my car because it's looking like all that money is going to wind up being spent on repairs.
GRRRRR.

Luckily my AE-1 is fine, I just got frustrated with the workflow, since the vast majority of my work ends up on the web. The results I got with negative scanning just flat out sucked - too much work for too little gain. Switching to dSLR made it more fun and the results are better in every way. I do wish I had the option to have a split screen manual focusing option, but the AF in the DR is actually pretty good if you've got good fast lenses. For super dark situations I use the Canon ST-E2 flash transmitter for its AF-assist, which means I can literally focus in total darknes - something I couldn't do even with a rangerfinder!
FWIW, I have the EF 50MM f/1.4 which is my primary lens. It's one sweet lens, although not built quite as well as the 85MM f/1.8 which I absolutely adore. The wide-angle limitations upset me at first, but since switching to the DR I've found that I shoot a lot tighter in general anyway. While shooting shows, my 20MM is simply too wide for most stuff so I'm contemplating getting a 28 or 35 at some point. We're super broke right now unfortunately, so unless I start getting some paying photo gigs, it'll have to wait.

Thanks alot, I will!

OK, so it's been a while since an update from me. But to be honest, not a whole lot exciting has happened.
I've just been enjoying the weather that we're (finally) getting, mostly.
I found a local store that sells Pixel Blocks the other day. I saw them online a few months ago, but didn't want to go through the trouble of ordering them and...

Hey, good comments on the recording - you were right about the fullness. I've done 5 mixes since then, things are sounding more full. I tend to "overfill" stuff, so I've been very conscious about keeping things light. I'm hoping to finish up tonight, so I'll let you know when I've got the finished songs!

Well, I yesterday was a holiday (Canada Day) and I took today off from work to make a 4-day weekend. So today I'm just hanging out at home, listening to music and cleaning. It's weird, I always procrastinate cleaning (although I'm not talking letting my place turn into a complete wreck), but once I get started I usually wind up cleaning the place top to...

Hey -
Yeah, I've been very lucky to be able to pursue the things I do. I don't do either for a living, however - which is good and bad - I'm a web-geek by profession. Luckily I've got a very understanding wife who is ultra cool about the time that I dedicate to my hobbies. Hell, she's been hanging out at the house all weekend feeding the band, cleaning, hanging out and being the kick-assed chick that she is. Indeed, I'm very lucky.
Hope you're able to do everything your heart desires - you can do it too!
