What to say of my night out last night at the Justin TImberlake concert.
First, gratitude to the ditzy 14-year-old and her friends for the fortitude it took to sell me their extra ticket to a sold-out show for less than even the printed face-value.
Second, props for the terrific set design. JT and the hopelessly talentless Good Charlotte (
) played in the round, and what they did with that in general was great.
But I don't think I'll ever drop in on a r&b-style pop concert ever again. This was my first, and I only bothered cuz I think the boy's got talent, and steals everything he has from the right people, so I was optimistically curious. Too many dancers, too many backup singers, all with too big a role. The lead guy, who I paid money to see, did so little, only had to do so little, and was too rarely the focus of what was going on. I was bored often and for long stretches. Now I know. (for sure, that is)
10,000screaming undiscerning under-18s, maybe 500 gay men, about as many guys taking their ditzy of-age girlfriends out and trying to score points. And me.
