The shoe's kind of on the other foot now, and it's an interesting feeling.

So yesterday's 9/11 anniversary came at a special time. I think I'm feeling towards Louisiana and Mississippi now something similar to what the rest of the country probably felt while I was in NY for the destruction of the towers.

It's a feeling of sympathy, accompanied by total mystery (despite all...

The long weekend went pretty much as well as it was supposed to. I'm always really happy to say that, but don't get to say it that often.

I need much rest.

you haven't seen me fence-vault, then. it's uh...not graceful. or fun to watch. i did have an audience yesterday though.

Goshdarn technology.
Now I'm no stranger to gadgets, buttons, wiring, computers, or anything gizmo-esque. But I got a new stereo receiver today and the back of the thing looks like Mission Control. Sure, it's all labeled, but I'm sure the switches at Mission Control are, too. That doesn't mean it's less than Swahili to me.

I connected four speakers (my start on the whole surround...

Hey, I forgot to thank you for your invitation last weekend! As you have probably gathered, I was out of town in Portland. And careless me, I left my cell phone here! Once I stopped freaking out (since I had not really made arrangements for my cat before I left...), it was kinda nice to be incommunicado for a few days... Anyway, when I got home late late late Sunday night I got your message, but it was too late to call you back.

So THANKS!!!!! And I hope it was fun!

I got my handyman on today (and yesterday). Mom just declared "I need you to rebuild my closets." last week.
Well, OK.
Home Depot, a sack full of tools, and somehow pink spackle (why the hell would they make spackle pink?? surreal Go to town, Girlie), all were part of my fun two days of destruction and renewal.

Maybe I'll add a toolbelt to my...

Many, many, many people showed up at the Sugarhill Gang show. Terrific vibe. I spent some of the time looking people over trying to figure out whether they were in Grammar school (like me), high school or college (or, um, just on the street) when "Rapper's Delight" came out.

The odd thing about the show is that the entire time they played COVERS of other...

ampersandwich:
i know! I dont know if ive had a nooner in like 7 years!

how was the DC show?

I think if you heard the Sugar Hill Gang play their own songs the crowd would be bored - they only had like 2 or 3 anyone knew, so they did the smart thing to keep the crowd entertained (even if it was the crowd entertaining themselves!) - where was this show?

Y~!

I've got a bunch of days off this week, and today was the best one yet. Prospect Park on a sunny weekday, laying on a sheet with a friend, an iPod, and a bottle of sunscreen, and only about 4 other people in the whole park.

And the Sugarhill Gang plays a free show tonight. Werrrrrd!

how was the show??
illstabyou:
I was working at a Sugar Hill gang a show they did at a college once. It was a free show in like 1998.

One of them came up to me, the really buff one Mel-E-Mel I think his name is, and asked me of the show was sold out. I told him it didn't sell out but there would be a good crowd.

There were a total of six people in attendence and about eight people working there.

To this day I feel really bad about that.

The Many Meanings of "Exotic"
Fuckin' Iowa.

i've got a couple of friends in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and went to visit them for the past 4 days. Iowhoah!

People who know me know I've done some things/been to some places worthy of travel or adventure magazine covers. You'd think that for this native New Yorker and frequent traveller that Iowa would be laughable. And I...

An amusement park of cheesy pseudo-decadence.
Been to busy to write about it over the weekend, but last week I was in Atlanta on business and had to come up with something to do after work that wasn't boring. On Thursday night Chitin was cool enough to take me to my first Waffle House ever. Better waffles than any diner I've been to, but I...

Yeah, that sounds about what I pictured Atlanta to be like.

Good seeing you this weekend, the party was fun and pretty chill.

it took you 2.5 hours to get a haircut?

what the hell? were you getting your eyebrows done too?

I'm in Atlanta working this week. Not in a particularly cool part of town, it's been raining every day, and I can't hang with Barbarella while I'm here because, well, she's elsewhere. frown

But I did go see a Braves game. Great stadium, I've been a Yankee fan for a long time and that stadium holds a place in my heart, but for the first time...

So the weekend didn't turn out as life-threatening as I'd anticipated. My good friend from SF who came out here actually shunned the debauchery that was planned for him. Hey, you know what? I learned this weekend that even some wholesome things can be fun, too! smile

Wholesome things? Like playing Monopoly and baking cookies? Even those things go better with crazy fucking. The Boardwalk and Park Place will never be the same...
