Hey SG land! What's up? I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy, yet still enjoying life to the best of your ability.
I thought that I would share a glimpse into my a big part of my daily life with you all. I'm a Harley-Davidson service technician at a dealership. I've been at it now for over 23 years. This is a bike that I worked on recently.
It wasn't running right when it came in so I needed to find the problem. She's a 1992 Sportster. After a couple of tests I decided I needed to take off the heads and cylinders to figure it out. I found that the front connecting rod had excessive play on the crank pin. So I pulled the engine out of the frame and ended up with this.
The pistons and cylinders were also out of spec so I took everything to my friend's house. He's been a master engine builder for over 40 years. He rebuilt the flywheels and bored the cylinders for oversize pistons. He als0 went through the heads, cleaning up the valves and seats. All this was done in just a couple of days. This thing is going to purr.
After finally getting all of the gaskets and other parts I needed for the bike, which took a few months with things being on back order, I got to start putting it back together. Luckily, I actually remembered how. Hahaha.
When I was done, I fired her up and I was right. She purred like a kitten. I'll post a short video of the end result since I still don't know how to do that on a blog yet.
