Life is crazy. I see my grandparents every Sunday because my grandma is going through the mid to late stages of Alzheimer's and my grandfather cares for her all by himself (until we find someone). It is my time to see them, have lunch, chat a bit, and give him the mental break he needs as he is with her all day every day and she's getting to be quite disoriented and unfamiliar with things.

Anyway, my aunt is here for a week and we had planned a 76th birthday party for my grandfather for today that I was really looking forward to. Then Friday in the wee hours of the morning though, my grandma had some fainting spells that caused her to be rushed to the hospital where it was determined that these "spells" are complete flatlines and she ended up getting a pace maker put in Friday afternoon.

I can't even say what this is like because I don't fully grasp the gravity of the situation myself. I spent some time alone with her after everyone left the ICU and was terrified. Today though she is home and amazingly looking better than she did last week and it's only a day and a half since her surgery!!! We had a lovely meal today and a nice visit with the whole family so all in all things are good.

I thought I could lose it Friday and yet here I am feeling more positive than ever after seeing her so healthy for a change. I think her circulation was getting so bad because her heart wasn't beating properly that it was causing additional problems but I don't know if there is medical basis for that.

I'm sorry to hear that about your grandma. I hear that's a really painful thing to go through. At least she seems better after the pacemaker.

Pacemakers are cool. I've worked for two companies that made pacers or components for them. The surgery could be worse. They build a "pocket" for the pacemaker around the pectoral, then sneak the electrical leads in remotely by threading them through a vein. I wouldn't call it minor surgery, but it isn't open heart either. She is so lucky they caught it when they did. I am happy for both of you.
