what a weekend.
So I took off thursday morning to Long Beach. Made some good time, so I stopped by Hollywood to see Kollywood. After a wonderful lunch, I headed over to Amoeba records to see my friend Fred. $175 dollars in records and, my prize, an uncut copy of Battle Royale survival program. Not only NTSC, but 5.1 as well. Go me.
I finally made it to Long Beach where I stayed with Ronnie and Laura. Long time friends, good to see them. We hung out , got some dinner and drinks. Friday morning I slept in (because the dude never gets to sleep in) and headed back to LA around 1:00, where I stumbled upon valhalla. I met some folks, played pool with a righteous lady, and took in a couple of cigarettes. Back to Long Beach, where I picked up Ronnie and Laura for a nice show in Silverlake/Echo Park. TV on the radio. Laura let me dress her up like a hipster, since we were going into hipster territory. I'd like to think I made her look like Debbie Harry (hott, huh). Left early and went to the Silverlake Lounge for some beers, where I sat on a bus stop bench and came to a couple of conclusions.
It's funny the way vacation changes your state of mind. When you're just sitting on the street, with no where to be, you aren't thinking of work, or responsibilities, you can actually have more meaningful thoughts. Thoughts like, "I wonder if I should shave this beard", or "I wonder if there is a nearby thai food place", or even the quintessential "I wonder how far Crazy Girls is from here". These are the things that men should be thinking.
Saturday we stayed close to home base and drove a few miles to Seal Beach for some sun and sea shell collecting. The sun was out and the beach was beautiful. I almost snapped a picture of a cute little girl playing in the wake, until I noticed an offshore drilling structure over her shoulder. It kind of killed the moment. That evening we went back to the house and watched a chris rock special. Pretty funny, but you can see him turn into Eddie Murphy right before your eyes. Trippy, yet safe.
Sunday was a shitfuck. I got up and left early for a nice drive home, and time to kill.
As soon as I got into traffic in Englewood my car decided that it was gonna die in the middle of the freeway. I actually had to get out and push the car over 4 lanes of traffic to reach the shoulder. I bribed a roadside guy to help me out and take me to some garage that was open at 2:00 in the afternoon. After two tries, I was lead to a Firestone shop right off of Supulveda, near LAX. Leo took care of me and had me back on the road in about an hour. Needless to say, the trip home from there was less than relaxed. I was waiting for the car to explode. Thank gosh it didn't.
p.s. Fuck Englewood, and the creepy con man that staged as my tow truck driver.
what's up with you , tiger?
