So what shall I write about on my first blog for Suicidegirls? Lets start with the basics.
I am 64 years old as of August 30. I live in Gilbert, Arizona where I work as a substitute teacher when I can. On days when I dont get work I spend most of my time pounding the keyboard looking for a permanent position, or working on the book that my co-author and I are writing.
I have lived in Arizona since February of 2008. My late wife and I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area of California; we had found that with my share from my parents estate that I could have really nice house built for what I couldnt even get a condo for in the Bay Area. We had always dreamed of owning our own house, and we looked forward to growing old together in our very own house.
As Cyrano de Bergerac says in the final act, How fate loves a jest. We got to spend 1 night together in our dream home. The very day after we moved inthe moving van hadnt even arrived yetmy wife died suddenly of a massive heart attack. :-(
She had discerned, before I discerned it, that I had a gift for working with students who have special needs. I decided to pursue this, and last year I took a Masters degree from Northern Arizona University, (Mesa campus) in Special Education. I am now looking for work in that area. So here I am, at an age when most men are looking to retire, going after advanced degrees and looking to complete a career change.
The babies in the pictures are my two youngest granddaughters. My 3 daughters and 4 granddaughters are a great comfort to me, and even though they are scattered all over the country we can see each other by skyping. Wonderful technology, skype!
