I haven't talked about this much lately because it's too depressing, but I'm still job-hunting. (Why is it too much to want a job that comes with health insurance? I've turned a few offers down for just that reason. None of them paid enough for me to buy it on my own and still make the bills.)

I applied for a job at the police department back around Sept 6th or 7th. Last week I had to pick up an information packet--which was basically an in-depth application and permission for them to do a background check. When I picked up my packet, I saw about a dozen more waiting for other applicants, and I have no idea how many others were gone by the time I got there.

A very nice cop called me this morning to inform me of my appointment for the oral board (what most people would call the interview)...which is not until October 17. OCTOBER 17!! Jeez, people, take your time much?? And it's at 8:30 am. Given my past history, I have grave doubts about my ability to appear literate at that time of day
