wow, i'm behind. two weekend ago i went to amsterdam. it was nice, except for the fact that they're renovating half the city right now. one side of the canal of the main strip of the red light district is nothing but dirt and boards to walk on. the rijksmuseum was also being renovated, and i did not feel like paying 10 euro to see a couple rembrant paintings. i went alone, which was probably a good idea as i got to do pretty much everything i wanted to and didn't have to worry about other people wanting to just do nothing but smoke up in coffee shops.
museums visited in order from most favorite to least: van gogh museum, anne frank house, torture museum, tropenmuseum (had a sepecial exhibit on evil through out different cultures and times) sex museum, erotic museum.
other noteworthy things: ate at really cool veggie place near anne frank house and talked to some nice british people; rode a bike; went to a flea market; had an isreali guy hit on me in a porn shop (i was flattered); met a couple cool guys from greece; had yummy falafel; went to an absinth bar.
the thursday after that i went to antwerp belgium for a day trip w/ my school group. went to norte dame (the other notre dame, in antwerp) and went to a fasion museum which was actually better than i thought it would be. the speical exhibit was about african influence on fasion and design. one exhibit that i loved had fake newspaper head lines saying things like "africa vows to send famine relief to the millions starving in europe and north america" and " africa sends peace keeping troops to stop french genocide." also had a cool documentary about blaxploitation films. went to an art museum after that but it closed before i got to look at the modern art floor.
and tomorrow i'm going to madrid spain. hopefully i'll make it their okay, as it involves two train rides, a plane flight, and a couple bus rides. yay.
