I appreciate all well-wishes, and all sympathies, but I've decided something. I've already replied to a few of you in this same manner, but here are my thoughts -

Instead of telling me you're sorry, and you wish me the best, take that time and be thankful. Be thankful for everyone you have on earth right now, and be thankful for everyone you hold deep in your memories.

Appreciate what you have, before it's gone.

Pay tribute to those who're gone, with a simple remembrance. Their laugh, their smile, their beat-up Plymouth. Their phenomenal sugar cookie recipe, or the fact that they never, ever, learned how to drive. Remember how they always drank martinis, but always asked for them to be "light" (a light martini? wtf?). Remember things like how they always wore Clinique makeup, even though they were allergic to it, or how they were once married to a famous bass musician, and lived in Chicago during the height of Jazz.

Think about how I started that list with no one in mind, and ended it with someone who deserves all of those amazing memories to live on.

Think about how you have someone like that. Think about how you can never really say you've "lost" them, because they will forever be in your heart.

I'm done now.

I fucking wish you knew how much you meant to me, Gen.

greaser:
I'm really sorry, hon kiss

I'm writing this from the home of my grandmother, who has been dealing with Alzheimer's disease for the past few years. I've been looking after her for a while now. I've had a lot of warning for the day when she'll no longer be here, but I'm still not sure how I'll handle it when it comes. If I manage to keep a positive attitude like you, I think I'll be able to handle it well.

endlessly:
Being away from most everyone I grew up with I think about them a lot. So many of my friends helped shape who I am because I disagreed with my family so much. From Brian I got my sharp tongue and wit. It's not so sharp these days, I really need a tune up on that. From Jeff I got some of my values and beliefs. Plus, he showed me that for most everything in life the answer was usually within you. There was nothing he couldn't fix, build, draw, paint, or just create from what seemed thin air. Sara showed me how to be a caring man and let go of my anger. And my brother-in-law showed me how to be a father. Hopefully, I'll get to used that someday. TREE and Paul taught me to laugh, and they also gave me my appreciation for good tattoos. There are more, but I'm just rambling now. Hope you're smiling.
