That started out as quite a tough one to read, but I'm relieved to get to the happy endings. Peace to healthy friends and family around you. It's a shame that your friend isn't hearing the message the way you're trying to convey it, but as long as you know it comes from a place of sincerity, then you've done your job as a friend. We can't control everything.
HOWEVER, as for your own self worth, and i speak from a place of experience, its okay to feel that frustration to want the easy way out, as long as (and this is the important part) you remember that attempting or going through with so-called easy part is never an option. It's an actual universal law that the only time you can do something like that is if you throw yourself on a grenade to save the lives of old folks and small women. In the case of men, we can do it for hot chicks too, but then they have to attend our funerals looking absolutely smokin'. It's true; that's a rule.
So fight the good fight, and always keep on keepin' on.
I hope things pic up for you soon, and that you'll be on more; I miss your comments to my blog and seeing your posts.

I wish you'd fully recover. e, my left big toe got struck with gout last night and I had to call off work - may get suspended for it. Hopefully not fired. At least I'm off tomorrow. It's not to bad now (as long as I don't walk or stand) after drinking 3 gallons of filtered water, black tea, green tea, an a pound of black cherries.
I'm oping to avoid the usual steroid shot. It usually gets rid of it in less than 10 niutes which is amazing, since the only things I've experienced on its scale are kidney stones an abcessed teeth. All quite similar. My friend Renee, who'd given birth to twins twice, says giving birth to large twin boys is far preferable to having kidney stones or gout, so when a woman says she'd rather pop 10+ lb boys out of her two at a time than go through this I guess I'm not just being a wuss.
Anyway, remember, coughing into your hand is about the worst thing you can do as far as infection control. Colds and other viri are most often transferred by germs on hands getting into eyes and noses. So when you cough in your hand everything you touch (doorknobs, steering wheels, etc.) abounds with microbes. The next person to touch it gets them on his/her hands, then rubs her/his eyes or nose and voila! Another infected Soul!
I have a friend at Centers For Disease Control in Atlanta who has a T-Shirt that reads "At CDC we won't shake your hand."
For the record, I cough into my shoulder. So do my doctor and most medical workers I know who have a clue.
