Thursday was a near perfect day. I say near, because there was a few things I would like to have done differently, but such is the way of things.
The morning started out with a short trip to the dentist which was then followed by spending a fair amount of money on books and jazz LPs. Work was, for this week at least, relaxed. We had a few hiccups with the live show for Reno, but then they changed a fair amount of the details on us at the last minute.
As the night was drawing to a conclusion at work, I mentioned to one of my new coworkers that I was going to see The Mathematicians later. Steve jumped in as he knew of them through a video some of his friends had made and the three of us converged upon the Satellite for what proved to be one of the best live shows I have ever witnessed. This band has more energy on stage than anyone I have ever seen, combined with very catchy rhythms, silly mathematic pun lyrics and some synthesizers. After the band finished the three of us all picked up an album and spent a good portion of the night there with Steve leaving first around 1:30-2. Matt and I remained for a while and when I went to say goodbye to a few friends I found out that the band and a fair sized group were moving over to a bar just around the corner from my place. But I am getting ahead of myself. Shortly after the band began playing a striking lady with whom I am partially acquainted with arrived. Jamie, the dancing diva herself, blessed the bar with her presence. She was with a gentleman, but I have a feeling that he was a friend, an assumption that was agreed with by Matt as he did not notice any of the signs either. There were a few moments of eye contact at first, but I maintained my position as chief bonehead by not making any effort at all the whole night to make contact. A passing goodbye as she left the bar after much dancing was all that I managed.
Regardless of my failings the night was stupendous. I ran home for a short bit before joining everyone at Shea's and Dizzy was so distraught over my continued absence this week that I decided to bring him along on the half block walk and into the second bar. He was so well behaved and quite the ladies man as well. A good portion of our time there he spent curled up in the collar of one lass, getting more snuggling in than I have in months. Not that I am jealous or bitter mind you. I had a great time talking music and all sorts of things with the band and a few others as well. Around 4, Natalie, the bartender who I have actually known since she was eleven or so, kicked everyone out. I took Diz home and returned with my car to help in the migration to Camille's place where we remained for another hour or so before we all began to falter. I arrived home at about 5:30, just in time to pass out and wake up less than four hours later in order to run into work for a meeting, still smelling of the bar.

A slightly odd, but even more so interesting, occurrence happened this afternoon as I was heading to the kite field for a bit. I stopped of at a nearby ATM and a car pulled in directly behind me for the drive up. I turned around to make certain and it was Jamie driving, we shared a laugh and a wave and as I left she pantomimed tipping a hat towards me as I actually did the same. I may be an idiot at times, but I think this was a good sign.
