Keeping it in the movie vein, I just saw Cold Mountain. Talented Mr. Riply is still my favorite movie of this director, but there were some great moments.

I have to say, though, while I like Nicole Kidman, she was woefully miscast in this. She did a fine job, but I could never see past her to her character.

Jude Law, however, vaulted to the...

Apparently you missed the post about the first boy I ever kissed being named Eagle. I'm a hippy born and bred.

Happy day before your birthday. Any plans?

Lunch with ma, then I'm going to finish a script I've been putting off. Which sounds like work, but I'm very excited about it, so it will be fun. The weekend is dinner with friends (Seattle's Chinatown) and some LAN gaming (geek fest).

James Cameron has a lot of flaws as a director, the chief one being the most exciting action sequence is usually the first one (Marine ass kicking in Alien, semi chase in T2 (though in this case there were visually cooler ones later), crane falling in the Abyss, just to name three), but one of the things he does well is set up those action...

I loved that movie, by the way. Probably my favorite Pixar movie, actually.

This is a quick journal entry to move my last two fairly depressing ones off the screen. Despite thinking it was too long, I'll jump on the bandwagon and say LotR was some kinda fun.

Gotta love giant tusked elephants, that weren't quite lethal enough, so they had extra spiky bits strapped to them.

I had a lot of things to do, but I went to my parents instead. It was my mom's birthday, plus she has a lot of stuff from my uncle Ty. He had gathered tens and tens of little wooden boxes and tons of chinese boxes and games made of wood. Hand carved chess set. Drafting pens. Books. Plus his planes, of course. Books on design and chinese characters. Some pretty interesting stuff. My mom had supposedly thrown away his porn, but I think it was the picture stuff. There were lots of books with short stories in them, and a file of drawings he had did. I got the file of drawings because she didn't want them, but didn't have the heart to throw it away. I haven't looked through all of it, but there was some pretty wild stuff from first glance (and I've seen some pretty wild stuff in my day).
juliana:
Wild stuff, huh? Can you describe what you mean by that, mqxie-Q?

well, happy birthday to yer mum. she's sagittarius?

i've never taken part of any dispersement of a deceased loved one's possessions. rather, i should say, i've YET to.

it makes you wonder about the things you'll leave behind, doesn't it? ... will you be prepared, and be able to decide who gets what? or will it be something that came suddenly, so one of your close relatives will have to sort through a whole lot of shit and pick through whatever they want? will you have to stash YOUR porn?

my sister could have all my clothes and photos. my mother could have all my paintings.

but who would i give all my letters and stories to? perhaps they could split it. if they ever stopped fighting over petty things.

what would i give to my father? would my grandmother still be around to have any of my things?

i have a rubber duckie collection that i know i'd give to my best grrl friend, whom i'm not really speaking to now.

it will be interesting to see how my books would get distributed. my family would probably pick first, then give the rest to my friends...

BAAH such thoughts on such a lovely morning. everything's white-grey outside, and very cold. i think i'll go to lunch with a friend.

Even wonder what other people think of you? Or how you affect other people's lives? Of course you do. I think what's more interesting is trying to figure out how important someone else is, to other people.

My Uncle Ty (see previous journal entry) designed and flew model airplanes.

Let me tell you what I knew about Ty. He wrote long rambling letters, filled with...

I have a cute little niece. She's about 12 now and about 5' 5", and is going to be a tall, strong, proud woman (despite her Pisces tendancy to cry too much smile.

My sister, her mom, is a couple years younger than me and has gone through the proverbial wringer since she was 3.

When my niece was born, it was after several miscarrages...

celebrate.

in a moment of hallucination, i suddenly became anxious that you mentioned celibacy in your post to me.

*whew* ... wasn't THAT frightening! but i'm glad it's over.

hrm. "Job"? ... what is this "Job" you speak of?

chatty chat chat.

i still need to sleep. had early dr's appt this morning so i didn't get much in the way of recuperation sleep. but i'll aim for it tonight.

you know how it is, when that moment comes and you can finally just curl up in bed and say Fuck Off to the rest of the world for 8-10 hours... I get so excited at the prospect that I stay awake longer so I can savour the moment.

I WILL be celebrating with road trip. To LA. If my work will let me off. I don't know what I'll do if they don't, though. frown Today I typed up fliers for our region's stores, advertising my need for coverage for 2 weekend shifts. I hope it works... Otherwise I'm S.O.L.

::kinda anxious::

For the rest of my afternoon, I will go thrift store shopping for cheap gift ideas!

Have you finished your hollie shopping yet? robot

I had a dream about Persephone last night. Not the SG, the actual goddess (I assume, I should say). I'm not one for believing in dream interpretation or assigning deeper meaning to them, but I'm also very open to finding out I'm wrong.

Most of my dreams are high adventure. Sometimes brillant colors, sometimes black and white or muted; but always explicit texture, sound and...

Pssst...One of the best lovers I've ever had was an Aquarius. I'm quite fond of them. But you're right, I'd quickly grow tired of being the responsible one in the relationship.

I'm jealous of your dreams, I rarely remember more than snippets of mine.

Oh and, you should maybe go back and edit that "say something nice" entry to add a compliment about the person above you, huh? kiss

My new favorite headline:

No matter what word you cover up, it's still funny.

I didn't post anything in the Matris thread, 'cause I don't want to be the guy that stirs things up when everyone likes it. Usually that comes across as someone just trying to be a dick for a boring night at home. So to my few fans out there:

That...

A great example of poetic justice, but I still keep hearing the Benny Hill theme when I read it.

My first day of the week is officially Tuesday, since I work Fridays and Saturdays... therefore the story of my weekend has yet to finish. But I've got homework to do, so that'll conclude that.

I work for a large, corporate information reproduction company ... pressing buttons for a pat on the head, and pocket change for food.

...Essentially, I am a copy-jerk.

Ick. Deer killing. Have you ever been a-huntin'? I once had an anxiety attack after stepping foot into a gun shop. It wasn't just the firearms; it was the posters of deer silhouettes with red targets painted over them, plastered all over the walls. Am I a left-wing tree-hugging animal lover? Yes.

*sigh* I'm hungry. Again. Gonna forage for s'more food... mebbe you'll have read this post by the time I come back.

oink
mqx:
Yes, I have been hunting. We were raised very poor and very much out in the country. I remember carrying a shotgun when I was five (for ducks) and have been around guns my entire life. I have never had the urge to shoot anyone, as I was raised right (a little detail that doesn't go into a lot of stories about people using guns violence).

I didn't actually deer hunt until I was grown and only once and didn't shoot at anything. It was more like armed camping.

I have shot prairie dogs... which, despite their PR, are plague carrying rodents (well, their fleas are anyway... the dogs themselves are just gross in a lot of other ways).

I like animals. I have two cats. Who are very old and very pampered. I don't equate shooting things for food with not loving animals (and I'm not saying you do, of course) ... though I don't eat prairie dogs. They're just gross.

On the plus side, I don't care whether you are a goddamn hippy... meaning, it doesn't make me love you any more or any less. I do care who you are. Besides, if everything we said; believed in; and liked and disliked matched up, it would just be jerking off.

Homework implies school, so now I'm obligated to ask you what you're studying, I suppose.

And I'm sorry I wasn't around right after you posted. We'll work on our timing biggrin

Now, I'm off to bed with my miao!! miao!! s. surreal (wink) tight and sweet dreams.

Why are we (generalizing, but you know what I mean) okay with seeing a different staging of a 'classic' play (outside of high school... I mean how many times has GlenGarry Glen Ross or Romeo and Juliet played in your town. professionally), yet we (see above) get all pissy when Hollywood remakes a movie. Very few remakes are viewed as better than the original or...

... I _could_ do that.

But we all know I don't like to make it very easy.
(It's the price you pay for a No Boredom guarantee. Good God, did you even READ the warrantee?!)

No discussion of size-2plus-octave-range hands will be permitted until training is complete, and certified.

... Or at least until you can tinkle out a few more sonatinas to demonstrate your dedication to the robot Cause.

And definitely no talk of stories and kissing! Like Monkey says, a sober ooo aaa can't do his miao!! .

...there now, we're even.
mqx:
I get it; you made a little joke there, with the sonata's and the octive hands... that's very clever love

I, alas, did not read the warrentee. I tend to take things out of the box, put the batteries in, and figure out the switches on the fly. Though, I guess that would be more an instruction sheet joke, huh. How about the next time you travel north, you can read them to me. robot

By the way, I did iedned see the lgganuae sdtuy a wilhe bcak. I tried writing dialog that way, but Word kept autocorrecting me. I wonder if it works in other languages?

I dressed up as Bruce Willis from Die Hard for Halloween. Pics exist somewhere.
