While I was away...Part II a.k.a. The $2,000 Hole in My Mouth
While I was in Chicago, actually on my second night there, Josh and I went to dinner with some folks from his training class. During dinner I bit down on a polenta fry and felt a surge of pain. I figured it was no big deal and decided to try to ignore the pain.
By the time I arrived back in Orlando the pain was pretty unbearable so I called the dentist for an emergency appointment and got in first thing on Tuesday. From the dentist I was refered to an endontist for a root canal and given antibiotics and pain meds. Thursday afternoon I was in the chair for a little over 3 hours getting a root canal.
There were issues because I had a root canal on the same tooth almost 10 years prior. 2 posts were put in during the first procedure and it took a lot of time for the endontist to get them out before he could even start on the root canal. Lastly the crack in the tooth was repaired and I was instructed to go back to the dentist for the permanent filling. I also told that the tooth may not be savable still and to wait on getting another crown for a month or so.
My dentist was closed for the next 2 weeks for the holidays.
A week went by and I was still in intense pain so I called the endontist. I was prescribed more antibiotics and pain meds. Another week and still in pain so I wait for my dentist to open back up and call to schedule and appointment.
That brings us up yo today. I went to dentist first thing this morning and it was decided that the tooth definitely had to be removed. During the procedure I had a panic attack and the dr had to ask if I was going to be okay. I made it through and now I am without one of my molars.
I was stiched up, given more pain meds and sent home to rest for the remainder of the day. I will return to the dentist in a week to have the stiches removed at which point I should have no more trouble with that fucking pain in my ass tooth. In the meantime I will be taking pain meds and eating soft foods and paying off the bills for my tooth.
