Life in China has been more than interesting these past 8 months. Gotta admit I was surprised when they lifted the block on Suicide Girls. Must be that they feel that tattooed beautiful women do not pose a threat to the oppressive communist government.
The hardest thing to get used to, not being touched, stared at, grabbed or followed due to my height and tattoos,...

It is officially the midway point for summer vacation. I know it may be weird, but I am looking forward to getting back to it this fall. I miss the energy and insanity of being with kids all day long. Summer is quiet, peaceful and wonderful, but there is something about being surrounded by screaming middle school kids all day long that brings a smile...

Watched the World Cup today. Team USA played with honor and should be proud. Sucks that they lost, but head held high I say.
Now back to writing my paper for class.
Hope everyone out in Suicide Land is having a more exciting Saturday afternoon than I am.

Enjoying a Sunday afternoon watching the World Cup and sipping coffee. It has been a busy first week away form school. I am taking a Differential Equations class for post graduate school credits, spending a lot of time at the gym each day and generally enjoying the opportunity to get outside while it is relatively cool here in Minnesota. The humid weather still has not...

Well, time is running down with the kids at work. Spring is always fun and a little sad. I am actually more of a fan of Fall for many reasons. It is cool (I do not like the heat), the leaves are turning, the air is crisp, kids are fresh off of a summer break that has left them ready to fill their brains, basically...

Feeling a little melancholy today. It is a nice, cool day here in Minnesota and I have been missing the Pacific Northwest a lot lately. The small town feel of Portland amidst the large city, Powells, Mount Hood in the distance, the ocean an hour away, the rain and the music scene. So much to miss and so much to love. I know I will...

Kids never cease to amaze me. Their minds work in ways I had forgotten, but never cease to amaze me. They are inquisitive, understanding, honest, fair and wonderful. Well, when they are not being little turds that is, and, well, let's face it. Middle school kids can be those as well. Still, I would never trade my job for any other. Still can't quite believe...

It was a long week. I dealt with bullies, crying kids, laughing kids, kids with questions and kids with answers. Somewhere in there I taught a bit as well. I learned a lot, probably more than they did. They are, after all, quite amazing teachers themselves.
Here I sit, reading a book, listening to music, relaxing after a long week. It is not an exciting...

I was administering a state test today and one of the science questions dealt with reproduction. Two of my middle school kiddos, one girl, one boy, hadn't a clue. Innocence is so sweet and they were so wide eyed and clueless. Kind of weird to be sharing such a thing in Suicide Land, but I thought it was sweet and wanted to share.

Smooth week...

Aww...that is sweet! Good to know some kids are still innocent. Kids grow up so fast and have to know so much so soon. Did end up staying home sick today. No sense in getting everyone else sick. smile

So I discovered some new music at the concert this weekend. A band called Death Vessel. Well, it was actually one guy and a guitar. He came out on stage, rail thin, with hair past his waist and began to strum his guitar. Kind of Alt Country so I was interested, and then he began to sing. His voice was androgynous, clear and amazingly beautiful....

Getting ready for a new week of teaching, lesson plan writing, playing teacher, counselor, nose wiper, cheerleader, drill sergeant, extra ear and prosecutor of bullies big and small. Gotta say, my weeks are never dull and always something to talk about.
I hope that everyone out in suicide land had an amazing weekend filled with good music, better friends, loads of laughter and memories to...

Just got home from the Jonsi concert. Difficult to explain. It was as if I was in a land of forests and trees, deep oceans and raging storms, where music washes over you like soft rain one moment, and crashing waves the next, while at the same time, the sunlight warms your skin as the trees surround you. One of the most amazing concerts I...
