i usually don't like to make a new blog after one day but really

That's Harley Quinn? That's Harley Quinn? What the hell? I've been pretty quiet about the DC relaunch but really? That's too much. Jokers Daughter, it'd be fine. But Harley?
You know, for every book I like and look forward to, DC has to make two I cringe at. Sgt. Rock, I'm looking at you. Wildstorm is now apart of the DC universe.
I think I know what it was like in the middle of the Eighties. When you had your characters from defunct comics companies be bought by DC. So they could be on the Justice League of America. Oh wait, they don't do that. It's this JLI thing. Oh well, they're so iconic, they blend well together. Oh wait, everyone is getting raped/shot/drugged out. It'll be better in the nineties.
Fast forward to the nineties. "OH MY GOD I CAN'T RECOGNIZE THEM ANYMORE."
I'm going to take the Red Letter Media character test and have it apply to art. The guy from RLM came up with the great star wars character test. Take any character from the old star wars movies and without describing them physically or what they do, describe the characters.... Done? Okay, now do it for the new prequels. Any character. You can't do it!
Now I know this particular litmus test is not as it is intended to be used but bear with me. Superheroes are like wrestlers. We're supposed to know the roles on how they look.
Now lets apply it to art. Describe Robin. No storylines, no actions, just what the character is suppose to be. Now describe Red Robin. Which one?
With the DC relaunch, with all the character redesigns, I can't recognize these characters. Superman is Ultimate Superman. Wonderwoman wears pants (which is the least of the the irks I have because Wonderwoman changes her outfit every eight years.), Barbara Gordon is Batgirl again apparently but she's wearing Spoiler's version, Red Robin looks like a stoner in a bird suit, the JLA is in their twenties, Black Canary has fishnets over green pants.
Good god my nerd rage went incredible hulk smash.
