We stopped after driving for awhile, near some nondescript wheat field in the middle of the country. I couldn't with any certainty tell you where we were. Didn't really matter anyway. The bag of money was still in the trunk of the car, safe- buried with a cop uniform underneath a bunch of oily old blankets.
You got out first, stretching that delectable body of yours- I couldn't tell if you really needed to stretch, or if you were just teasing me. In the end, I decided that it didn't make any difference. I got out a minute later, after lighting my cigarette with the dashboard lighter- I still couldn't find my zippo, I must have lost it- and walked over to where you were standing.
"I love to look at you, you know."
"Are you sure about this?"
"Am I sure of anything I've ever done?"
You look at me, annoyed. All I can do is offer a shrug and an expression of "oh well, sorry" on my tired face as I stand in the sinking light and smoke. This is the one chance we have of having a life together, and I'm not even sure if it's what you really want- for all I know, you're just along for the ride, the adventure. I fear of calling you on it, though- I don't want to drive you away. After all, now- you're an accomplice as well.
