I just added 11 RSS feeds to my Livejournal friends list.
I can now sit all day refreshing my Livejournal friends page, and instead of reading ljdrama, I can store tons of almost useless facts inside my head.
Note: I visit 10 sites daily to read news as it is, but 7 of those 11 feeds were sites that I would go to anyway. This...

You know, sometimes I wish I was crazy and brilliant, not just crazy and ...very interested in things.
My interests and abilities are too many and too shallow.
I'm a jack of most trades, and a master of only two or three. And when I say master, I just mean better than most.
See, part of my problem is this fascination I have with heroes....

I often feel the same. I have good intentions to change the world, but neither the skill nor the capacity. I do however have the ability to change the lives of the few people in my corner of the world. I guess that's my contribution - the "mothering" of my friends and the support of my lover. It's normal and speaks well of you that you care.

Sweet, Portland is so much better than wherever you were before. I need to call Alanna and hang out with you guys soon. It's been too long. As for smoke-free places...I'll have to get back to you on that one.
I saw your name on the SGPDX group hopefuls, so I vouched for you.

Umph.
I'm up at 4am. Why did this happen? It's no good.
Oh right, getting my name on the Civ III Hall of Fame.
I was feeling heroic enough to sit for 8 hours and push buttons.
My name shall never be forgotten.

I wanted to post a response to a Catholic in my Social Change class. Do I sound a bit like a dictator?

so what were kerry's and lisa's talking points that prompted you to write this? I mean I agree with what you're saying, but that's all I can really write in response to what you're saying.

I was reading this post, and was thinking about two books i read in grad school. The first is the _Forgotten Truth_, by Huston Smith. It tries to delineate between science as a discipline and what Smith calls "scientism", or science as its own religion.
The second is _Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander_, a journal collection by Thomas Merton. Merton at one point says that complete and utter dependence on technology or science "renders the world spiritually unlivable."
I think both authors are trying to get at the point that both science and religion provide modes of knowledge, but in different realms. Science cannot assist people in providing meaning to the observations they make.
This sounds like an interesting conversation you were engaged in...

There's something about movies/songs/paintings/pictures/poems that leave me feeling empty that I just can't get enough of.
I'm a masochist, I suppose, although I don't particularly derive any pleasure from it.
In other news:
I decided I didn't want to stand out anymore, so I dyed my hair black. I've never been too good at blending in, but I want to try it.
I'll post pics...

I bleached my hair.
Strange affect being in Portland has on me.
I haven't dyed my hair in...well, about a year, anyway.
And as always follows a chemical processing of the hair, I am filled with dissappointment in myself for giving in to this desire to be prettier by way of making my appearance less "natural".
It really doesn't make much sense, as I tend...

I dislike males in general.
There are a rare few that I can get along with, but for the most part they just annoy me to the point of headaches.
Perhaps it's this "masculinity" that I find so unappealing, of course, I don't care much for wimpy emos, either.
Maybe it's just loudness that frustrates me. Yes, I think that must be it.

Interesting that I am not alone. I can't think of a distinction without sound classist.
I have to disagree with you on Rand. Great books though.

I don't know why I get happy when my financial aid check comes. I should be either relieved and/or annoyed at my continuing debt, not happy.
The most fun comes in trying to resist spending some of it on frivilous things, like a pair double-knee Carhartt dungarees, and a flannel-lined Dickies Ike-style waistcoat.

Asthma is an interesting problem. Histamine is supposed to help repair tissue by dilating blood vessels, but in the case of asthma it causes passages in the lungs to restrict. And because the histamine release is governed by antibodies, it's pretty tough to try to fix it through holistic means.
I too have stupid health problems with no real cure. Having a body is lame.

Frivolous purchase is sometimes a good thing. Personally, when I do that, I like to buy stuff that's groundwork for a stupid hopelessly long-term project I'm probably never going to get round to; because then I'm a little more likely to actually do it. Gives me a spurious sense of progress.
I had never checked out my school debt in detail until this morning.
I figured I had worked up about $30k in loan debt.
No.
$69k and rising. And I thought my $12,000 of credit card debt was bad.
There are some parts of this country where I could buy a house for that much money.

I am very glad I never had to do that calculation. I probably should have had to, since I wasted my university time. But equally, I'd never have survived it if I had.

Ok. Hi kids. I'm in Portown now.
I've enjoyed walking around with frozen hands holding a big mug of fair trade coffee.
I love riding the bus into downtown and seeing all the industrialness of the area by the river.

thanks for the gesture, what with the thread and all. my post in the other thread was more of an observation rather than a call for a thread about the subject.

Commencing shutdown sequence.
I will return to SGland in a week or so.
Let us pray that my computer survives UPS ground shipping.
Stay well people, and know that by the time I turn this thing on again, I'll be living with a photographer.
