I have been working on the same set of song lyrics for six days now.

SIX.

F@CKING.

DAYS.

It's not even a very long song. Three minutes, maybe. It has a title: Leech. It has a good riff, some fun changes. It gets me all pumped up when we play it. But damned if I can get the lyrics to come.

I consider myself a good lyricist. Not a great one, like Jawbreaker's Blake Schwarzenbach, but better than what you get on most "modern rock" stations these days. I'm unwilling to settle for simple end rhyme and simplistic wording, except for parody:

Spontaneous combustion
Babe I'm burnin' with desire
Spontaneous combustion
Yer lovin' sets my world on fire
Can't avoid the flames of your seduction
Cos your love is like spontaneous combustion



I think what I'm looking at is something akin to apathy. Ennui, perhaps. I don't feel like I have anything in particular to say, which makes it difficult to say anything at all.

I'm sure the "dry spell" will pass, as all things do, but I'm a little nervous about how long it will take.
