an old demon, this afternoon,
dropped by to say hello but
he did something to me, nothing for me,
set my past aglow.

he took my hand and rearward guided me
to where i'd lay to rest,
were i to put my empty faith in him
[but i refused to be possessed

by his vacant eyes]. he'll never know
the strength I now embrace,
for when a girl moves in slow motion
she defeats fast-forward pace.

he then reminded me of everything
that never should be said and
with him by my side i'd be his bride
but he'd rather see me dead.

he told me that he never loved me
[but we knew that all along].
he told me that they never loved me
[and I knew he wasn't wrong].
