Galas and Auctions

Saturday was my big Spring Gala I was helping to organize and you know what? It went really, really well!

The room looked beautiful, the entertainment was great and people really seemed to enjoy it.

I think the most interesting part for me was seeing the live auction that took place. Ive been to charity auctions before but always with some volunteer auctioneer. This auction had a real country auctioneer and a lot of the people in the audience were famers people who know how to go to auctions!

It was crazy how fast things went the energy the way the spotters would rile people up to bid more! I loved it. I also sat on my hands so I didnt end up buying a birdhouse for $1,000 (not that it wasnt lovely!).

There were about 14 items and wow they went for a lot. At one point a leather recliner went for $1,400. It just so happened the gentleman who owned the furniture store that donated it was there and he spontaneously said he would give a second to the second highest bidder if he also gave $1,400. A weekend chalet stay was auctioned off as well as a time share.

But the very last item were two Build-A-Bears dressed up with the logo of the charity on them.

There was a bidding war.

They went for $1,100.

I'm glad it went well.

A friend of mine was trying to organize a silent auction for her chemo treatments and medical bills. I offered to auction off myself, but then felt one of our friends would fetch a higher price. He said, "no." Honestly, I think pimping him out would have helped tremendously.

I'm been to farm auctions (the ones with the fast-talking auctioneers). I can't say that a horse, or a tractor, would fit inside of a birdhouse. But, what do I know? skull
