I recently posted a new episode of my podcast. This one is about Dawn of the Dead (1978) which was filmed in my hometown of Monroeville, Pa. To this day, people come from near and far on a pilgrimage to see where Dawn of the Dead was shot. People as far from New Zealand have shown up with cameras in hand!

You can hear my...

The Nightmare Fuel Podcast--Episode Two--NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

Hello my fiends!

Johnny Zombie shows off his roots--so to speak--by revisiting a homegrown classic.

In 1968, Night of the Living Dead shocked audiences. It's mix of gore, nudity, and post apocalyptic imagery gave birth to the modern horror film. Taboos were broken, and the seeds were sown for one of the longest running franchises in...

niniane:
Thanks!!! Funnily enough I went out last night and acquired a new nickname - Fifth Element lol. We were all too drunk to remember Leeloo's name so we just stuck to the movie title.

I'm glad you liked my video! Haha I don't know what I would do a podcast on. I had a teacher in high school beg me to join the speech team because she needed someone for the radio category. I had to turn her down though because of my severe stage fright frown Haha but it was cool to be asked considering I always thought I looked like an idiot with all of my over-fidgeting!

How's yours coming? Can I get a brief overview?

The Fly Paper Dungeon: Episode 37--Horror Film Casting (Fantasy League)

I just posted a new episode for my podcast. This week I did something very different. I cast actors in adaptations of Gothic novels.

You can listen to the ghoulish results here...
The Fly Paper Dungeon--Episode 37--Horror Film Casting

I also pay tribute to Sir Christopher Lee on his 89th birthday. Today also marks 100...

See I believe that world of the cenobites isn't hell. Or heaven. It's just another world. It definately is religious though, they worship the diamond god in the sky and the word cenobite by definition is a zealot of a religious order.

I prefer to look at it as that they are just a different culture. They punish the 'evil' in ways that inflict upon them the extremes of their sin.

On the other hand when has 'pinhead' ever lied? He is honest to the point of a fault. He went back on his word in the first movie based solely on the rule that the person who opens the box must have a desire and that desire was unfulfilled (her desire was to save her father. Her bargain was only giving pinhead back a soul that already belonged to him).

So in essence what is hell? the lies and conspiracy and world filled with those who have sinned... or the world where those who have committed those crimes are punished and only the just and enlightened walk free?

See. What I love is that it's totally up to interpretation of those who see it. smile

Or you can just look at it as a horror movie. (oh and i just didn't like the idea in phantasm that they were aliens. I mean WTF?)
lusyd:
Oh I agree with phantasm. See I refuse to believe the tall man is an alien. Aliens dont look that weird lol.

But at face value that first movie makes your eyes hurt and makes no sense. Scary? Sure. But meh. I hear the follow ups are way better and we're just getting ready to sit down and watch those this week.

The Fly Paper Dungeon: Episode 26--Alien (1979)

I just did a feature-length commentary for Ridley Scott's Alien.

One of my favorite films, and favorite horror film--this sci-fi/horror mashup still has the power of shock and awe! It was released the same year I was born. Legend has it that my mother was pregnant with me at the time she saw it. One of my aunts...

California was amazing...I wish I could go back! I landed in LA, stayed there for 4 days, then drove to a few different cities and ended up in San Fran. Went to tons of vegan restaurants, did a lot of shopping, and relaxed. It was so nice smile

Ewwwww...gummy rats...I'll pass on that one!

There are few things I hate in life. One of them is hypocracy, another is lying. A third is stabbing me in the back. There are all very painful things to deal with. But for me, frustration and anger are worse than pain.

I am now experiencing both frustration and anger.

It is also related to tax season.

I did my own taxes this year,...

I feel for you. A few years ago I had a tax service do my taxes even though it was the easiest return ever (seriously - I had income and a donation and some retirement investments and that was it). I ended up getting a refund and went on my merry way.

I got married... we bought a house... all good.

Then I got a letter from the Canada Revenue Agency saying that my tax return was wrong and I owed the government $3,000. Oh, and I owed it to them within two weeks.

I called the tax company - they looked at their records and said, "Oh yeah, we put a four where we should have put a one - you do owe them $3,000. But that's okay because you shouldn't have had the $3,000 to start with so just give it back". Ummm... I've bought a house and moved to a new city and am job searching - I don't have that $3,000 anymore!

Grrrr... now I do my taxes myself. So I sympathize!

BTW I just watched the videos on the Kraken website! They were so awesome.

Where to begin...

I fell into stagnation back in October. Which is a real shame because I happen to like that month. Things happen, and it's in the past now. While things aren't perfect, I at least feel that things are starting to improve.

Creatively things are working out.

"The Novel that Won't Die," (not it's actual title, but it describes the nature of it)...

Haha I'm impressed that you recognized the shirt! Well done! I was deff all about TMNT myself but Batman always takes the cake.

The way I look at the whole tiime travel paradox in Terminator is no one knows how time really works, whether it's one stream or multiple so I just say fuck it, it happened somehow haha. Maybe one day I will get drunk and contemplate it.

And I think my sister found those gummis at a dollar store somewhere.

I spent a large portion of today involved in some kind of work--either physical or creative.

I've worked on "The novel that won't die," thankfully, for the past three nights in a row. Though, actually, I'll been working on it bit by bit since late Feb. The fact that I've been working on it everyday is a vast improvement over working on an intended long...

Writing Projects...

One wonders if one should write fiction or non-fiction.

Typically, I write non-fiction, or humorous pieces, like the one in my most recent blog entry. I sometimes read these pieces on my podcast as well--usually to great acclaim. I'm good at writing in either genre, and I feel that there isn't anything I couldn't write.

My conundrum is this...

Do I continue to...

And as far as the mortician thing, I think I could be really good at it and actually genuinely ENJOY it. I like blood and guts and all that fun stuff and I'm actually fascinated by the human body. So, I think I could handle it. i just need to learn the material! That's the hard part.
