Until I die I'll never give up on romance. I love it and live for it. Last night I went on one of the best dates I've ever been on.
A few weeks back one of my ex girlfriends moved home. She and I have been good friends ever since we dated 12 years ago. We enjoy each others company emensely and have continued through out the years to go out on dates whenever it fit into both of our schedules.
We started out the night cooking dinner together and having a few drinks. We made a nice garlic bread crustini topped with diced tomatos, onions, basil, fresh garlic, and olive oil appetizer, and since she's a vegetarian we had eggplant parmigiana for dinner.
Once we had dinner we got all dressed up in fancy clothes. She had on a beautiful black skirt, a black camisole top, with a cardigan sweater over that, and her Mary Jane shoes. She looked absolutely amazing.
I remembered from way back her favorite ice cream flavor and brand. It has to be Breyer's Mint Chocalate Chip for her. So after we were ready we had a bit of dessert and headed off to see a show.
We went to The New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark to see George Winston. It's a relatively new building based around the layout of the traditional opera houses. It's a stunning place to see a show. We had a set of box seats on the third tier up that over looked the stage perfectly.
George Winston is a solo pianist on the Windam Hill record label. I really don't know how to describe his music to fully express how good it is. It just evokes emotions so deep inside of you that you can't help but be moved when you hear it. We have both been fans of his for a long time and this was the first time either of us were getting to see him perform.
He did about a two hour show that just blew us both away. There were times when you could just shut your eyes and be carried away with the music. Going places in your mind that you could only dream of.
Afterwards we met up with some of my friends at a local bar I fequent for a few more drinks. It's good to know the bartender. He hooked us up so well. I think the total bill was half of what we should have payed.
We had a few more drinks back at my friend's studio after that and then headed back home.
It felt so good to be out dressed up, going to such a fancy place, for such a good show. To be with her. To have such a good time.
Is she my girlfriend? Nope. Does that take away from the fact that we had a brilliant time? Not at all. She's just someone who likes spending time with me and who I like spending time with.
I can't understand why more people don't try and remain friends with former lovers. Sometimes it's impossible I know, but there was a bond made at one point and why should it have to end when you split up?
That had to be one of the most perfect nights out I have had in a long time.
