Had a great weekend trip up to Boston. Went to the Boink Burlesque show at the Middle East on Thursday night and it was much better than I expected it to be. They had an MC that kept the show lively and lots of audience participation. Friday night we had a dinner/bar/hotel party. Got to chill with lots of old friends and get caught up on tons of gossip.

I love Beantown. Wish I could have stayed longer, but I had work on Sunday morning.

The new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album kicks ass. It's a more mature version of the first album with fewer outright assaults of noise and screams, but it is a huge step in the right direction for them. The lyrics are just as cheeky and clever as always with an added element of insightfulness and even moments of vulnerability. While there was only one 'Maps' on the first album and as it was the biggest song it would have been easy to make an entire lp of knock off love song ballads they didn't take that route. It's impressive in this day and age that an indie band can actually make a record that their fans can't simply shrug off and whine about how much better the first one was.
