I'm just back from a rather event filled weekend in Philadelphia. Thursday night I met up with all my favorite SG Philly friends, and non SG locals that I've gotten to know. I have to admit I was apprehensive about heading down there because I knew I would see my ex girlfriend for the first time since we split up. All I was hoping for was that things would be cordial. I really had no idea what to expect.
I got to the bar and met up with all of them. It was akward to see her. I said hello and she waved back. The night went on pretty well and despite her complete lack of conversation with me, she at least wasn't rude.
When she was leaving I said to her, "Look, we can be friends." And told her I had brought back gifts for her from my trip to Ireland. She said that she didn't want them and stormed off. It was the first time I've been that pissed off in a really long time. What the fuck? Before I left we were on good terms. When I get back we split up. Fine. She has her reasons, but fucking hell the least she could have done was taken the things she asked me to get her. I have no use for them. If she feels guilty about how everything went down between us that is her issue to sort through. I don't harbor any ill will towards her and I don't need to be treated like an asshole when I was never anything but kind to her. I would completely understand if I had been a prick and I was trying to somehow make up for that, but to be that cold and rude takes some big balls for a little girl.
Good friends show their true colors in moments like these. Instead of me making an ass of myself by telling her how fucking rude she is and how she should fuck off, I was taken aside and calmed down by rational heads. Another drink later and I was over it. I just don't have the time to waste on petty frustrations anymore.
I got a call just after that from someone who has me very excited about new prospects and possiblities. My focus is on moving forward. It was perfect timing. It seemed like right out of a movie.
Friday night we were back off to the hippest bars in the Northern Liberties district. Started out by having dinner at The Standard Tap. The food in this place is so good that you just can't get a seat there. We managed to work something out. Heh heh. After that we headed over to 700 and had a few drinks before heading back over to W&J's.
We were just chilling and bullshiting with some of the locals when SG member Robosushi came over and recognised us from the site. It was great to meet another SG Philly local that we hadn't had the chance to chill with yet. He's a fucking cool guy.
Heading back to Sweetpea's house later on after the night had wound down we got let out of the cab and overheard all sorts of siren's blaring. Just a couple of blocks away there was a 6 story warehouse completely engulfed in flames. Totally insane. We watched as Philadelphia's Bravest had the thing under control in less then a half an hour. That's amazing. Firefighters really are heros.
This morning we all met up again for brunch and as we were telling the story about the blaze the bartender told us what had caused it. Appearently a small aircraft of some sort had crashed into the building. The pilot was killed, but no one else was injured thankfully.
Kicked around for a few more hours before I headed back home to NJ. I have to say I really enjoy going down to Philly. It's a cool city with a lot of good people. It's almost like a mini vacation when I'm there.
Even though things went shitty between me and my ex, I really would somehow like to be able to have her as my friend. To be able to hang out without unnecessary tensions. It didn't work out for us. So what? That doesn't mean I'm going to hate her. It doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to talk like we did before. I understand that our age difference was a big factor. I understand that she wasn't over her ex boyfriend. I hold no grudges towards her. I know what it's like to have baggage. I've spent the better part of the last few years getting over a long term relationship that went badly. It was extremely difficult. I was finally ready to date. She wasn't. Chock it up to bad timing among other things, but don't hate me because of that.
I have high hopes that there is someone in my future who is ready to date. Who is ready to be treated well. Who deserves and appreciates kindness. She will be rewarded, that's for sure.
Birthday wishes to Stiles. Your a great guy, mate. You are 100% wicked fucking cool. Sorry I couldn't stay down for dinner and more drinks. Have a great night out.

Boston on the 27th sounds great. I'll try to clear my schedule.
