My favorite author and architect of my wild years as a younger man...sooo many memories, some bad, most good. Another part of my youth yanked back and repossesed. I always thought of the song "Torn and Frayed" when I thought of him which was often considering I have a picture of him on my desk at work. I feel sad today.

Thanks for the mourning comment.
They had a great pic of him from 1995 in the local paper here - wish I had a scanner. I may try to take a pic of it and post it.
Just played a blisteringly loud solo version of White Rabbit with no audience in his memory.
Great profile pic!

haha. Cool! Wanderin'! Never tried that one! Sounds good.
I'll leave gigging dressed like that to Flea of the Chili Peppers.
I actually got the idea because I went skinnydipping last weekend at the home of with 2 nurses I met at my gig and got oout of the pool and played them a private acoustic show wearing an acoustic guitar while they did things to distract me. And it all reminded me of my exwife when we got out of bed one evening and she went and grabbed her drink and some ice and I grabbed the guitar and followed singing a song I'd written her on my lunchbreak. She was drunk and got teary and sentimental "You're singing to me naked - can I take a picture" so she took a polaroid.
So yesterday I got my webcam working and happened to be naked and was rehearsing solos for Powderfinger and Althea and set the cam on 10 second delay. You can see when I switched songs, as there is an SG sticker on my guitar in some but not the others.
Good luck withthe gig - let me know how it goes

Why thank you ... thank goodness I was at work at the time or that might have ended up being the longest comment on a journal entry ever!
So Bill Monroe, huh? You just NEVER know what you'll find here at SG.

What a great melange of songs! Fat Man! Just watched a Little Feat show (from before Lowell's death) yesterday. Great song! I almost played Powderfinger Friday night, but realized I almost always play it so I didn't. I usually do it acoustic so maybe I'll do it electric next weekend. I played last night with this incredible singer, Shelly. I'm tryingto find our setlist to post it.
I stil don't understand not getting approved for the Neil Young group.

Check out my suggestion in Mikael's journal about keeping the thread going for a long time and then submitting it in petition to the Powers That Be.
societyspliers:
I don't know what to do to get the group going. The thread has been going well enough I think it warrants consideration. Hell, I've seen Neil mentioned in so many peoples band lists right next to everyone from Johnny Cash to Rancid to Sex Pistols, etc. He's a freak just like most of us here at sg.
Love your smiley journal entries. it probably takes you all day to decide on the proper one, huh?

Never saw Joe Cocker live but I have several of his shows on VHS. Soon I'll be getting a DVD burner to copy VHS to DVD and start to convert and organize them. I have hundreds if not 1000s of haphazard (like most of my life
) videotapes, poorly if at all labeled consisting of live stuff, Twilight Zones, History stuff, Yada Yada and it'll probably never be organized. I love to grab a random tape and just watch it. It may be an old zone, some Celtic folk music, a documentary about preRoman inventions, HBO Real Sex, concert footage of one of my old bands, or "home movies" my ex and I made
ONe gem I have is the old SNL where Joe starts singing and Belushit comes out and starts imitating him in a showstopper rife with pseudoepileptic fits, etc. Apparently Cocker was pissed but sucked it up and rolled with it. He said in a biodocumentary I have on him that he convulses like that because he grew up watching bootleg fooage of Ray Charles. Interesting useless factoid, I think. I'm sure you will enjoy!
