Hello Gorgeous babes! I hope your having an amazing day/night wherever you may be. If not here’s to things getting better. I am writing this while watching the Gunners play Everton. Go Gunners! Later tonight the Lions are going up against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. I just hope they don’t get blown out. Cat and I had an amazing day yesterday we went to breakfast, played some disk golf, and had a nice nap before she had to go to work. I then beat the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games.

The new Metric record is pretty good. It’s not as synth driven as the last one, it definitely has the rock and roll spirit of the earlier records. Emily Haines voice is one of my favorites. Here she doesn’t disappoint. I wasn’t able to score tickets to their show so that’s a bummer. Anyway I really dig this track.

the new Joyce Manor record Million Dollars To Kill Me is some quality emo-pop. The songs are short and sweet. They stick in your brain and are great for listening to while I was playing Sonic the Hedgehog last night. After being in such a joyous mood from my day with Cat. This track is my favorite so far.

todays subject is Emo. People think that Emo is for sad teenagers which is slightly true. Not all Emo listeners are sad teenagers. Also not all Emo listeners are sad. While the music definitely dwells in dark feelings, sadness, despair, depression. That’s not it’s main focus it’s about channeling those emotions into some tasty tunes that punch you in the heart.

The beginning of the Emo scene starts in the eighties with Washington D.C. bands Rites of Spring and Embrace. Rites of Spring took hardcore music and changed the compositional structure. They also brought in more personal lyrical themes instead of the political themes of before. Singer/guitarist Guy Picciotto wails over the music, you can feel his pain and hear it in his voice. This was the song that always stood out to me

Embrace was Ian MacKaye’s band after Minor Threat. Putting aside his hardcore past. MacKaye forged ahead with a new sound that he would be the forefather of. This guy created one of my favorite Emo records.

After Rites of Spring called it quits and Embrace imploded. MacKaye joined Picciotto to form Fugazi. My introduction to Emo was through my friend Sky who had given me a record by this band from Wisconsin called The Promise Ring, the album was 30 Degrees Everywhere. The song he played me was

their next record Nothing Feels Good would go down in Emo history as the record that started the Midwest Emo movement, which isn’t really a surprise because it’s super good. This is my favorite track

Another midwest Emo band that caught my attention was The Get Up Kids from Kansas. They had grabbed me by the heart and didn’t let go. Their debut record Four Minute Mile is still in my rotation to this day. This is my favorite track.

Without spending too much time in the Midwest this is the last of the Midwest Emo bands. Braid from Champaign, Illinois took the blueprint and kicked it up a notch. By releasing another stalwart in the Emo pantheon. That record is Frame and Canvas. This is my favorite track from that record

Next up is a band that some say are pop-punk others say hardcore, I say they are Emo just based on lyrical content alone, maybe Emo punk is a better description anyway. Florida band Hot Water Music knows how to use confessional lyrics with music that both pushes and pulls. This is hands down their best song.

Hailing from Seattle Washington, Sunny Day Real Estate are definitely the kings of west coast Emo. Jeremy Enigk’s vocals are dripping with emotion and the music is both beautiful and crushing. This track is from their last album before they broke up, they would later reform in the early 2000’s.

The early 2000’s saw a boom in the Emo movement thanks to acts like Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Brand New, Thrice, and numerous others. Taking Back Sunday from Long Island, New York was one with a pop leaning sound. Having seen them a few times their shows are always so much fun. This is my favorite song of theirs.

for my last video is by a band that I have been in a love/hate relationship as not all their records are good and the last one was pretty much indie rock. Brand New also from New York, singer/guitarist Jesse Lacey once played bass for Taking Back Sunday. When I first heard Deja Entendu I was blown away. I played my record so much I wore it out and had to buy a new one. This song spoke to me in a way no song had before.

Disclaimer: I don’t like using un-official SG photos, if she has a problem with me using her pictures I will take them down and use my alternate choice instead.

That being said today’s bum is from a cute ginger woman who made my day by punching me in the heart. She told me I have a cute smile and that it in turn made her smile which in turn made me smile, it was a regular love fest. She’s a gamer, has an awesome Lord Of The Rings leg tattoo, studies Electrical Engineering which I almost did once, until I realized it required a lot of math, which is not my strongest subject. She’s got beautiful Blue eyes the lovely @chloemisfortune thanks for being so sweet gorgeous babe!

Thanks as always for your support. Any questions, suggestions for new music, or would like your bum featured, let me know in the comments below
