So I'm now three weeks removed from a mountain bike crash which caused an AC joint separation in my shoulder. They rate them on a scale of 1-6, and mine was a grade 5. I was told that most sports separations are typically 1-3, but mine was bad enough that it required surgery to repair.
Two weeks ago, the surgery was done. There was about a 6" incision made, then they drilled a hole in my collar bone, and a hole in my clavicle, and cinched the two back together before wrapping it with a cadaver ligament. It was actually a pretty interesting experience because I never had any kind of surgery up to this point in my life.
The pain was only bad the first day, and after that it was pretty easy to deal with. Only two weeks post surgery, and I've got a good deal of movement back. Working through physical therapy now to be able to ride again.
