How is it that working with the "best and the brightest" kids always turns out to be so dissappointing? I'm tired of them crying. Don't they realize that the system is bad, not them? Don't they realize that it is a large corporate meat grinder, but instead of ENRONesque paychecks we give them grades and Advanced Placement credits? Why can't they just trust that I know what's wrong with the system and can help them get the most from it without having to compromise their integrity and self worth?

I had a professor in college. He was British. He taught classics. He would go on these long tirades about ridiculous things, in his ridiculous accent, with these ridiculous long and dramatic pauses for effect. Once it was an acknowledgement of the ignorance of our culture and the fact that we don't know why there are so many libraries around the country with classical greek and roman columns in front. But when he realized that it was 20 minutes into class time and we hadn't really begun, he would say, sheepish and flustered, "End of Rant." Then he would begin class. And for that I am thankful. And to Professor David Ganz my glass.
