Hope.

Last night two of my best friends came over. Joe was my Political Science teacher last semester, and we became fast friends. Janet is his wife.

We three like to torture ourselves. We watch political documentaries, drink gin and tonics, and sink into despair together. Last night was "Outfoxed", followed by Noam Chomskys "Manufacturing Consent".

Hope is something that Janet and Joe have lost....

I don't need hope. I just need fight. I'm in DC now, and VA is where we have a chance to bring some blue to the red territory; meanwhile, in my blue MD, the Republicans are coming hard to turn us red, and the projections show that, if no change occurs, this will be solid red territory within 20 years. So I don't fuck with hope. Because I have to fight--and win. And you know what? Here's where hope shows back up after I don't need it anymore. Because all these bastards will like us after we beat them. They'll like us when we win! The fight is right where I am, and the people you talked to are right. This is a fascist regime, a dynastic empire, a propaganda state. This is Germany in the 1930's. Do the math, and we know what comes next, but I say fuck hope. I don't need it. We're the ones we're waiting for. Don't waste your blood on a deaf and godless white house. It's time to hit back. Take on idiot republicans one by one, find real candidates among our dems and do what you can for them, and let's reframe the debate. Hope is for lovelife. And hope is about fighting only because you think there's a possible victory at the end. We can't be that lazy. We fight because to not fight is immoral. We fight because we're out of options. If we don't win, we went out as the last part of an extinct human race. But if we fight, without feeble hope that it'll all be okay at the end of the storybook, then we might just do some damage and be the inspiration for hope to bring the lazier ones back into the game.

I think every generation is certain the sky is falling. Just imagine growing up in the fifties and sixties during the cold war! (Talk about the end of the world) Don't lose hope, because the world and society works like a pendulum: sometimes things are far left, sometimes far right, and sometimes in the middle. So, don't worry because activism and good times, they'll be coming back around again. biggrin

PS. We should toooooootally go bowling... I'm way cute in the shoes.

Are you sure that it is Tom Waits that makes you cry in the bath? It could be an alergy to the mildew.

The other night I had a nightmare that was so bone chilling and vivid that when I woke up the fear stayed with me and I couldn't sleep. The next night I was afraid to go back to sleep, afraid that I would dream it again, so I wrote it all down to get it out of me. Want to read my twisted head?

I...

the way you wrote that is so breathless, fitful...as if you can't get it out fast enough. desperate.

but for our stories and nightmares, demons have no place here.

That was very intense. you really captured it well too. no stops just bang! bang! bang! kind of like something spalding gray would've typed out, before he clocked out of course. I hate the way you feel moments after you wake up from a dream like that, slightly confused and violated, like " ..what the fuck was that?" I wrote to say goodbye, even though you never excepted my friendship request fucker. I don't blame you though, there are a lot of porn site creepies and emo-rock weinies probably putting in the same requests. I assure you i am none of the above. You simply remind me of someone i used to know and care about, even though everything i know about you is from a half finished profile and handfull of journal enteries on a silly softcore website. tongue
You also remind me a lot of myself and i wanted to get to know you a little better. But i have the strangest feeling that i'm going to run into you someday. stranger things have happened, especially to me. Anyway, hope everything goes well for you, you seem like a very cool and genuine person so it probably will! biggrin this is definately the longest comment i have ever left on someones journal.

Dear painbearer,

With all respect and admiration, I simply mustrequest that you promptly remove yourself from my thoughts. I seem to have spent all my homework time daydreaming of big blue eyes and crooked grins. This will not do. I insist that you extract yourself from my head immediatly, as I have a very busy schedule and can not afford a repeat performance. A...
