Referring to what you said, you won't find my political views by viewing my page. But as I slowly read through your profile I notice the views we share. I get off on reading books like "Positively Black" and such, I despise racism and am one of the few people in America that realizes 99% of our white race is ethnocentric. Mathilde, I read your post about Sheila Jeffreys. Unfortunately, her views were fairly common among second-wave feminists--feminists from the 60s and 70s. Fortunately, in the U.S. these views are much less common among later feminists--those from the 80s and 90s.

In my experience, though, European feminists are much more likely to hold anti-sex views like Jeffreys, even if they're under 40. Have you found this to be true?

I think sometimes people sense when we want to be ignored and it actually draws them toward us. Perhaps they find the situation less intimidating that way.

Your notion about whether the 9/11 suicide bombers considered their victims to be innocent is fascinating. So much so, actually, that I think I will try to incorporate some of that attitude into my story. That's the mentality that I think so few of us can understand, and why people were so disturbed about the terrorist events in New York, Bali and Madrid. To the terrorists, we are all enemies - they don't recognize innocent bystanders, you are either for them or against them. A very similar attitude as George W. Bush, actually.

I haven't read Hannah Harendt's books but I'd like to. Iris Chang's book was much the same way. The Japanese soldiers who committed the massacre at Nanking thought they were just doing their work. They also didn't consider the chinese to be anything more than dogs, mostly because they were encouraged to think that way by their superiors. It made their jobs easier.
