when i was 12 years old i learned how to sail a 2-mast catboat. it took me three days to get a feel for how the boat worked and how to use the wind. every day i figured that i was never going to get the hang of sailing, that i just didn't have the knack for it. the fourth day i just got it, i learned how to use the ropes, how to use the wind, how to shift my weight... it just started working for me. i spent 5 hours sailing that day, and i've actually never been sailing since then. i think my fondness for sailing is really a fondness for that feeling of making it work, of finally understanding the mechanism...
it's frustrating when there are things i can't make work, but i just have to keep in mind that i just haven't figured out the proper approach completely yet. if i keep trying eventually everything will just fall into place.
