SGLAND! :) HII! :D
This week's topic from @rambo and @missy is what was your first tattoo? Well....This.... (shown below)
It was a gloomy day in St. Louis MO on my 18th birthday when I decided to get a tattoo. I had designed it and thought about it for a long time. I actually lived in IL at the time (right across the river to St. Louis) but in IL the legal age to get a tattoo was 21. So all of us "kids" used to cross the river and go to the MO side of St. Louis since in MO it was only 18. Hehe. I went with the boyfriend I had the time. My tattoo artists name was Joe....I know right...how comforting...Joe Schmo. Anyway, I walked in and handed him my drawing. He asked if I wanted any color and I said no. Now, I actually regret getting zero color and going straight for a tribal piece because my skin is so pale it takes to color amazingly. Regardless, I was young and stupid. He did the right side dragon...a week later I went in to get the other side done and he wasn't there, so I got it done by a girl name Mo.....I know, seriously though that was her name lol. Joe and Mo....haha makes me laugh, anyways...she was a lot more heavy handed and that side scabbed horribly. You can even see on the left side how its faded a bit in the middle from the scabbing. The pic is only a few months after the tattoo was finished.
Now skip 10 years later....yes I know, I'm old.....and I will be getting my first tattoo covered up by an entire back piece. Something very similar to this(shown below)....because my tattoos are dark..I can't really go color so my back piece will have to be done in black and grey.Yes...I'm into the creepy. I won't be doing all the flower stuff around the sides and it will be more "alien" like, but you get the idea.
When I was 26 is when I started really getting all my tattoos. I had time to think about what I wanted and how I wanted them. For those who have read my blogs and followed me, they already know that my entire right side is Grimm fairytales (the original horror tales, not the Disney versions). I already have all the drawings in place, it's just a matter of getting all of them tattooed :) My left side is "random". Stuff that has inspired me, is a part of me, things I just like etc.
My right arm (shown above) is Snow White and the seven Demons (still a work in progress). And yes, still going for creepy. We still need to add the rest of the demons, do the color on them and finish up Snow White herself.
My right leg (shown above) is Red Riding Hood....of course a little more scary. My...what big teeth and claws you have! ;) This piece took over a year to complete and goes from the top part of the thigh down to the knee. It was just finished this Feb.
My left arm (shown above) is a version of my soul going to the underworld, hence the coins on the eyes to pay the ferryman. And all the pain and struggle in life is leaving my body through bloody tears. This is the only other "black and grey" tattoo I will have. It packs more a punch this way from an artistic stand point.
My left arm (complete and shown above along with my unfinished leg piece at the time). I've always had a thing for dragons so I got a dragon my left arm. It IS the ONLY tattoo I regret because it's not big enough and the image will slowly over time be very hard to read. My tattoo artist and I have talked about a "cover" up. Essentially just covering up the bottom half and making the dragon longer. Still a work in progress.
So that's it....going from a little tribal on my back to huge pieces and more pieces to come. I am lucky to have found an artist who is not only amazing at tattoos but he does amazing paintings and is an ACTUAL artist. He free hands most of my work, even after I draw them on paper for him so they flow more with the body. We also have a similar art style so he's always excited to do the pieces and ideas I bring his way.
10 years of getting tattoos and much more to come.
