5 years already. That just amazes me completely.

I remember growing up, my mom always told me about the day JFK was shot. She told me the story a dozen or more times. It was one of those stories that you didnt really mind hearing more than once, or twice. Before she was how she is, she was a great story teller, too. She would begin with, "oh, you just never forget those things, you never forget where you were, what you were doing; no one really does." My mother was born January 8th (Elvis' birthday) 1955. She was 8 years old in 1963. She tells this story vivid, always, like she were describing a more personal event such as my birth, her wedding, her fathers death. However, the JFK assasination was personal. When i was younger, she would tell me how it was like the whole country, every single person stood in a moment of shock, paralized. On that day, she was in her 3rd grade classroom when someone stormed in the room hysterical saying "The presidents been shot! The presidents been shot!" They had access to a few televisions in which the class watched the developing story. All the grown ups were crying. Everyone was confused. And even at her young age, she knew it was something very bad.

Up until September 11, 2001, when my mother had described this mass moment of shock and despair, i really didnt understand it. When i woke up that morning, i did. Its just that simple.

Note: I did not write this entry with any political motivations. I was purely inspired by a few commemorative 9/11 shows that were on tonight. Out of respect for the thousands of people who were killed, please try and refrain from posting comments with any negativity or any criticism. There is plenty of time for that. Time that i will spend any chance i get doing. But not today.
