I think I was a European in a past life.

It's very strange, but as I've been thinking about the things that I have a passion for, most of them are European, or at least international, in origin.

Exhibit 1: I'm a hard-core international soccer fan. And not just the World Cup stuff either. My weekends are based around watching soccer matches, whether English, German, French, or whatever, on the telly. I got cranky when Fox Sports Channel decided not to cover the Dutch Eredivisie this season. I also collect soccer shirts, as mentioned before in one (or more) of these journal entries.

Needless to say, finding Yanks to talk soccer with, especially at the level that my interest is at, is a very difficult thing.

Anyone over the pond want to set me up with a shirt of their local club? My money is good! wink

Exhibit 2: I want a classic Mini. I love the little cars. Finding a decent one in the states is like finding a proverbial needle in a haystack though. I want one in british racing green, in the 1970-72 era, with bonnet stripes and a sunroof. Hell, I subscribe to two UK magazines about the little car. Someone help me! smile

Exhibit 3: Music. Gimme more Euro dance/beat/hiphop/whateveryacall it. I'm weary of the same old tired American shit polluting the airwaves these days. My kindgom for a decent dance station here.

Exhibit 4: Movies. More and more I find myself watching European (and Asian) films, which to me, are much more about story, plot, and character development and less about blowing shit up.

Exhibit 5: Friends and acquaintences. I feel like I have much more in common with folks across the pond than I do with my fellow 'mericans (that's how W pronounces it) in many cases. I gravitate in many cases to my international students and the foreign faculty and have big-time wanderlust to see the world.

So what's my dealee-doo? Don't get me wrong, I'm fortunate in life living where I do and enjoying the things that Americans are apt to enjoy. So please don't post something like 'move ta Holland, ya unpatriotic traitor freak,' biggrin But I in many cases feel like 'something is missing.' And I'm hoping to figure out what it is.

Suggestions are welcome wink

There's good offers on at the Pompey and Southampton club shops if you want to have a look online and let me know what you want.

Wow. You're like more European than us; fully with you on most things except the films; a balance of all films are good; like a lot of the American TV we're getting over hear is a lot better than it used to be.

And who doesn't want a classic Mini Cooper? smile
