Our home was burglarized this Friday. We're not happy.

The culprits didn't get a lot quantity-wise. They couldn't have been in the house more than 5 minutes. They got in through the front door and headed straight for the bedrooms, went through the doors and closets there, then left. While most of the stuff they got is replaceable, they got my wife's high school class ring, her mother's class ring, and a diamond solitaire that belonged to her grandmother. These all are of sentimental value, and the wife is not taking it very well.

In addition, they took a portable DVD player, our video camera, our digital camera, and a few collectible (and valuable) coins kept in the firebox.

To make matters worse, I was out of town on a conference when it happened, so wasn't there to comfort my wife. She was at work at the time. The robbery happened in broad daylight, sometime between 9 and 4 during the day.

We'll recover, and hopefully the insurance will conpensate us for our losses, but the part that bugs me the most is the feeling of violation. Someone came into my home and went through my shit. It's disconcerting.

The robbers left the cats alone, and closed the door on their way out, so that's some solace. We suspect they were young people, as they left a lot of valuable things in the jewelry box from which they took stuff. It's almost like they just grabbed without even looking what they were taking.

Pravon is taking this a lot worse than I am. I'm sure she'd appreciate some words of encouragement.
