Whew!

We're home, at last.

As most of you have undoubtedly noticed, I've been out of town this summer. A lot! I'm home now for three whole weeks straight, which pleases me to no end. I have two more trips left for the summer--one for four days to see my parents in Fort Worth, Texas, and the other in early August to Wizard World Chicago.

But Germany was wonderful--pravon and I had a wonderful time.

The trip was somewhat risky, as I pretty much planned all of the traveling and activities from here in North Carolna. I made reservations at six different hotels on the internet, and all of them went off without a hitch. So the trip went very smoothly. My language skills (I speak German pretty well) also helped us immesurably, and I was quite pleased with how well my German has held up despite not using it regularly for going on 15 years.

A brief summary of the trip:

We arrived in Frankfurt, and rented a car. From there, we drove about 200 miles to Nurnburg, where we stayed two nights. On the first day we toured old town Nurnberg. The next day was Game Day, where we saw the World Cup match between the USA and Ghana. Other than the result (The USA was dreadful) it was wonderful--very colorful and patriotic for all countries involved.

From there, I planned a four day/three night trip south along a famous area in Germany called the Romantic Road. It goes about 350 kilometers, eventually ending in the German Alps. The area is filled with rolling hills, quaint villages, and beautiful countryside. And having a car, you can make your own hours and stop when you like.

Then we had a five hour drive north back to Frankfurt, where we set off back to North Carolina the next day.

But enough of me...I will let some pictures do the talking. I'm working on my photography skills, so let me know if you like the composition smile

This is Bamburg, which is one of the few towns in Germany that remained relatively untouched by World War II.

A view of the Main River and a bridge and castle in Wurzberg, at the northern end of the Romantic Road.

A shot in the first half of the USA-Ghana World Cup Match in Nurnberg.

Some still-excited Swedish fans after their team lost to Germany. This is in the very famous town of Rothenberg ob der Tauber.

The medieval walled city of Dinkelsbuhl. I love the stepped gables and flowerboxes all over the place.

The Wieskirche, which is a pilgrimage church in the low alps. Reportedly a crucifix within the church wept. Lots of people come to this church as a result.

Neuschwanstein Castle, which is what Walt Disney used as a model for his Disneyland Castle.

Pravon and I at the match, shortly before kickoff.

Happy Italian fans after they had just defeated the Czech Republic.

It looks like an amazing trip. I'm glad it went so smooth.
I watched the US-Ghana game. Pretty weak game by the US.
Who are you pulling for Italy or France?
