There are days that suck...

and then I remember that I have a very interesting life. During one of the darkest periods of my life, frustrated and angry, a hummingbird somehow ended up trapped in the garage- wtf, right? I ran in circles trying to figure out how to shoo it out, even resorted to a fish net... no luck.

Believe it or not, I finally decided to try something ridiculous.

No, I didn't use a flyswatter.

I held out my hand, and hummed some nonsense tune. It came right down and landed on my hand and eyed me like this occurrence was the most natural thing in the world. A hummingbird. Brain the size of a pea... maybe.

I walked it outside, around the side of the house far from the garage, and it just chilled there with me. I finally showed it where there were some flowers along the side of the house and she took the bait and dove back into the wild.

Anyone else would have been shocked and awed and changed their outlook on life. Oh no, not me! It took this same event (essentially... less chasing and shooing after this) happening 3 times in one week (not the same bird, different sizes.. barely, but I am confident it was not the same creature) for it to finally sink in. My ups are really up and my downs are really down... but so long as I keep on going through the downs the ups are worth it every time.

Looking back on this, I feel truly blessed. Who else can say they've held a wild hummingbird? Not in a restricting way, just a 'mind if I borrow your finger a moment?' kind of way... I was gifted with this three times in a WEEK!!

No matter how frustrated or angry I get, from here on out I promise I'll zen my way through it. I think next spring I'll be buying a hummingbird feeder too. wink

Don't worry, I don't have a garage at this house.

smile it was really awesome. I told my dad and he didn't believe me.. Then he witnessed the second. My friend Melody saw the third. Magic is alive in the world, for those that dare to believe.
