(testing the feature)

Unless I'm mistaken, for the most part this isn't about privacy when it comes to Snapchat and marks that major difference between Snap and Insta. Especially after the recent update to Snap getting both platforms even closer to each other.. Snap stories are still more useful for sharing and interacting to small groups versus the more feature rich photo album focused Insta. It's almost inconceivable to follow people on Snapchat that you don't or can't interact with.

From what I've gathered you should only have your stories open to friends in the first place (on Snapchat). So typically it isn't a big concern regarding privacy if a follower snaps a screenshot of your story or, like Facebook, a follower shares something on to one of their contacts that might not be following you (also has an alert I think). In that case it's more important of WHO they are sharing with. So if a follower snaps a screenshot it's more like oh they must have found that interesting lemme post more of that. If your story is more public like Insta it's still understood that the whole wide world is watching, snapping screenshots and sharing and inconsequential who they share with. Sure you'd like to know who any new random people are that would be snapping screenshots but who cares.

Given it's almost expected that Snaps are more sensitive than selfies and stories on Insta there are those people on Snap that do post things that shouldn't be shared at all or widely. So what's missing is an auto-blocking feature, not just an alert. But the necessity of which emphasizes the reckless shamelessness of the Snap userbase and like Twitter in what Snap allows you to post (given the origins of those apps that are not beholden to an ambiguous parent company like Facebook with a global userbase in the billions). Oh shit someone screenshoted that snap! I shouldn't have posted that! I shouldn't have trusted that person. I can't see that reaction from anyone posting anything to Facebook's Insta.

And again that's the difference between Snap and Insta.. you're not posting anything compromising or inappropriate to Insta (or at least you shouldn't even if your account is private).

I don't see the point in it at all for Insta because that platform is more about getting yourself out there and noticed. Probably why it makes more sense that you can go Live on Insta and Snap hasn't added that major feature yet.

Let's take a minute and consider the.. opportunities.. should Snap offer a private or public Livestreaming feature. If especially you know what Premium Snapchat accounts are. Their profit would jump. Interest in Snap would skyrocket. The internet might break.

While.. Instagram/Facebook Live.. is tepid to say the least.

Back on topic...

So the tone of the article making it seem like a privacy thing.. I guess.. but it feels more like it'd be that much more important on Insta to know your stories are generating interest because of the Twitter-like feedback that let's you know people are interacting with you content. That said, there's no likes for stories. And if they screenshot, it stands to reason they are trying to save something they like but Insta (and you) are only leaving up for 24 hours. If there's a majority of screenshots shouldn't that indicate you SHOULD have just posted the selfie or photo to your timeline?

Plus there's also other interactions like comments, but they go to DMs rather than being attached to the story segment visible to the public, which also doesn't make sense because they aren't public to begin with. That makes sense on Snap because that's feedback to your narcissistic self and that feedback isn't anyone else's business unless you screenshot it and post it to your story.

Ripping off Snaps 24h stories never made sense to me because you lose those interactions and are forced to add more daily (good business sense to encourage content creation but what good is it to us).
