Rachelle LeFevre (Under The Dome) tweeted that she liked the movie Arrival.
So I watched it on my phone to find out IF it was actually good or not. I'm a dome fan because of her mostly but after watching the movie.. I don't know.. it is kind of silly.
Actually.. spoilers, the way the Science focused father reacted is probably how I would have reacted. She's not actually crazy she's just seeing the future.
If there's any way they could have avoided the daughter being born with a terminal disease.. I can understand how he would have wanted to explore every avenue possible to avoid her life being so short.
BUT here's the question. She DID live even though she suffered, she was loved and that's more than she would have had had she not lived. She gave her the best life she could have.
Now. Facepalm. Really?! Bringing a child into a world (which might as well have been at the cusp of a golden age since it was AFTER humanity was just gifted the ability to see into the flipping future by an alien race that gave them 3000 years to get their ass together to save them. And you're going to tell me she gave birth to a child knowing she'd have a terminal disease anyway and there STILL wasn't anything anyone could have done to save her?!
This is why I hate most recent Sci-Fi movies and replied to the tweet that the movie was mostly a waste of the first hour and over all it was too much like Interstellar. Way too interested in telling a story about the people and not about the science. Well because we won't understand the aliens and their advanced magic science anyway.. what difference does it make how we tell you our story?
I'm almost annoyed that this movie didn't at least try to do some of the things that Contact did back in the 90s.
And I mean the current state of affairs is this, IF we had to learn how to communicate with aliens, who are apparently benign and looking for out help, we wouldn't need a human being that can see the future before the aliens even arrived. We'd hand the task over to the worlds super computers running modern AI because that's effectively what they are built for. In your lifetime these systems have gone from pong (or let's say PS2) to systems that rival science fiction in their ability to, understand what they see, to create things like art.. and drive cars (although even that was automated decades ago but yadda yadda the point is they are really advanced.
Understanding aliens and their motivations would still take weeks or months, as stated in the movie, about an hour into it. This statement should have come within the first 15 minutes of what should have been a much longer movie. but I guess they didn't want to be this decade's Contact by telling you what would actually happen.
Australia doesn't contribute anything. China decides to blow everything up. Russia shoots a scientist. Facepalm.

Hmmm. Probably a better set of videos to watch.
