For not fans of Harry Potter.. I wonder if there is space for a TV show about kids in an urban magic school?

Without ignoring real technology it would be awesome to have a show on a college campus where the students are practicing magicians with little regard of course for their own safety and the safety of others.

Like I'm seeing a great opening episode being a bright sunny socal day starting in a lunchcaf, while waiting in a massive lineup for munch the main character decides to go off campus for food.

He starts to walk out, faster and faster until he's outside and jogging.. then running.. in a very forrest gump moment he starts to notice other people joining the run

As it is a magic school they could all glam on running clothes and shoes, and necessarily have to get tired because they could cast refreshing spells on themselves or other students would do it to cheer them on.

eventually there's a mini motley marathon going on with hundreds of runners.

The main character finally pull up, off campus to a burger joint and helps himself to some food.

I'm looking at it as Sabrina the teenage witch where you can use magic at your own discretion, subject to all the same federal and civil liberties laws we already have.

Yes there could be accidents and real criminal activity.. but that is society.

Bigger plots would keep the show going of course but just the use of magic alone in an urban setting would be more than enough to carry a show at least for one season. Nothing would make for better HD television either than Harry Potter on TV minus all the dull British bullshit. It could be opened all the way up to HBO or Showtime levels of quality and authenticity especially with an older demographic in mind.
