Wednesday - day 5

Greetings from Verbier, Switzerland.

Did I mention that it snows a lot here? It hasn't stopped since we got here so we made the decision to leave Les Diablerets this morning. Somehow I was chosen as spokesperson to break the news to Dre. He happened to come by our room so I told him in front of the others. I felt a bit bad about cutting our stay there short, but so did he, so he went and made phone calls for us to find the best possible destination, which turns out to be Verbier. He even went so far as to get us a hotel room, take us riding at Morgins for the day, and then drop us off at the train station in Aigle, rather than waste a day travelling and lose a day of riding. Later while the two of us were packing the bus I started to explain why we wanted to leave and he just stopped me and said in a french/german accent "hey man, I know, I'm a snowboarder too" and shook my hand. And that was it. It was kinda like the "head nod" in that movie Go, just without the cheese. And while it may sound cheesy, there's really no other way to explain it so I'll just say it how it is.

After packing our things, we went to Morgins, which turned out to be a great day. The sun came out, the views were spectacular, and the powder runs were knee deep. I had croute maison for lunch, which is much like the rosti, just replace the potatoes with tomatos. The swiss sure know how to freakin eat, however I have yet to see one fat swiss. While we were in the restaurant looking out at the sun starting to set behind the mountains, drinking hot wine with an orange peel, "born in the usa" comes on. That was good for a few laughs.

So we said our farewells to Dre and the crazy Demonium crew in Aigle and are now on the train heading and hour and a half south to Verbier.

After waiting an hour in 0 degree C for our bus in Le Chable, we arrived in what is literally a winter wonderland. Cute shops, lights, snow, pubs, snow, and a nice hotel. We're about 50 meters from the lifts. It was night when we arrived so I'm not quite sure what the views are like yet, but I already have a feeling this is the place to be. For dinner tonight we had fondue bolets. Yes, more cheese, this time with mushrooms.

Now it's just about midnight and we're watching Road Trip dubbed in German. I'm sure you can imagine the hilarity. Anyhoo, bedtime for me. Can't wait to kill Verbier tomorrow now that I have my legs back after today's ride. smile

Current level of body pain: Moderate. (ie. can stand up and sit down with slight aches, taking jacket on and off somewhat awkward and painful, shoulders are so swollen from yesterdays tow rope incident I look like I'm on steroids)

I am so insanely jealous right now. It sounds like your trip has been incredible so far. The scenery alone makes skiing in Europe worthwhile.
