I've been listening to Dillinger Escape Plan quite a lot lately. I should say, I'm not a hardcore fan, but they do it so well! It's not all screaming throughout. The music is very dynamic which I like. And I can actually hear a bit of the jazz influence I've heard people talk about.
I first heard about them from a guy (a drummer) I used to jam with. He was always lending me minidiscs with a mix of songs on them. I always listened to them, but didn't like a lot of the stuff he did (dream theater for example
). Still, he did turn me onto some good stuff ............. Like Dillinger .........
I'd like to see them when they come out here. Not sure if I'll have the money for the tix though (given the amount of money my car ate up this week. If I get to go it would be a great start to the year as far as the live music thing goes (having got to see Isis and all
)
Today I started thinking about how I've been neglecting the guitar playing as of late. I've spent so much time fooling around with midi (via Reason) that I haven't played a real instrument for months. This sucks even more because I took 3 months worth of guitar lessons (after teaching myself for 12 years) from a Jazz guitarist who was really awesome. I was so inspired when I was taking lessons. I felt like I'd only just started playing again. He moved to England so the lessons stopped. And so did my motivation to learn it seems. Luckily all the lessons were taped, so I can just go over it all again. I LOVE jazz guitar, it's fucking amazing!
And now for some boring news ............. I've started looking for a new job. I still have a job, I haven't been fired. It's just a bit too on and off for my liking. I want to find something closer to the city centre so I can move from the 'burbs, hence lessening my need for a car. And I'd get to see my brother more since he lives just outside the CBD. Ultimitely I'd love to move on my own. I'm over the whole "flatmate" thing. I love the idea of being able to come home and be alone (unless I choose otherwise).
BTW - My tattoo STILL hasn't fully healed yet! It's still looking good though ... it's a really fine job!
