That's funny. The only thing I learned from Monty Python was how to identify a larch.

Bartenders income depends almost entirely on tips. If you're paying on a drink by drink basis...then $1 per drink is pretty appropriate because not only do they have to get your drinks, they also have to walk back to the register and finish the transaction. If you have a tab they don't have to carry around your cash and it's easy for them to just put a notch next to your name whenever they have a chance.

The way I see it: Tip my bartenders big and they will give me preferential service.

'ethics alcohol and women' yeah I guess its a bit strange but its the first things that came into my head. At the moment I've spending a little bit of time on the first, too much on the second and the third is unfortunately a non starter these days. That said I'm going to get off my ass and read some more of the ethics book im on tonight.
