This one came to me while I was on the train from Tokyo. I envision this story about two boys who make a pact, a girl dies, boys are haunted for life, etc...

Secrets within the tree

Chapter 1

Its another warm day here in Eagletown. Humid, muggy summers always bring new surprises. Flags hang from the light posts and new license plates pass through this town maybe only a dozen or so times a day. This town doesnt get many visitors, seeing as though the staple of the town is the local gas station and a small grocery store, seems more like a speed bump on the face of this earth. The biggest thing for our local teens on hot summer days like this is either cruising up around the Gas N Go and down to the pool hall, or hanging down by the river drinking beer and trying to get laid. Yep, good old small town with nothing around, but woodlands for as far as the eye can see.

Now, anyone who is anyone knows their boys had better play football, or baseball, and the entire girls had better aspire to be a cheerleader. As for the socially inept people, whose family has a little more money than the rest have their kids, play in the band. As for the rest of us, those whose family couldnt afford to travel from this small town were rejects, a speed bump on the social well being of this small town. We tried our damnedest to screw up and succeeded the majority of the time. Jared and I were inseparable. From small kids to adulthood we were dismissed and people always looked the other way whenever we did something they didnt like. My dad, a construction worker who drank twelve hours out of the day and worked the rest, somehow always found the time to show me how much he loved me with either his hand or whatever he had in his hand at the time. Yep, that was love, or so I was raised to believe.

Now, Jared never knew his father, on account he was shot when he tried to steal someones weed over in the next county, Jared was two years old at the time. Jareds mama always tried to find him a new daddy by going over to the bar in Crawford. His mama would always curse him for being born and for having to raise him by herself. Yep, there were a lot of perspective daddys for Jared. They would curse him, beat him, and one even liked him more than he liked Jareds mama.

Now, Jared and I decided one day, when we were twelve years old, that we would build us a place we could run to if things got really bad at times. The local Indians had a lot of land and sold cigarettes and scratch off lottery tickets out of a ran-down shack outside of town. One day, we decided that we would steal us some plywood and two by fours from old man Jenkins hardware and feed store. It took days for us to scout out the perfect spot and when we did it seemed as though God had made it especially for us. The trees were thick as molasses and we had to cut tree limbs and clear leaves for days. When we got everything the way we wanted it, we carried everything piece by piece until we had everything there that we needed. Now, on the last day when the last nail was driven, we made a pact to never tell God! anyone, I mean anyone about this secret place, so help us.
