NoControl, or somebody, if nobody's mentioned I'm on vacation in
the puzzles group, could you let them know??
Da beach: day 3
1) I don't know if SG tags will work updating from email
2) This may be extremely boring reading because we're doing nothing
exciting. Hey, it's a vacation. In fact I went through and cut some really
dull stuff out. May still be boring.
First, sandcastle pics http://www.thonky.com/beach
Next, look, I can write in full sentences and use carriage returns! Why?
Because I'm an IDIOT! We've had an internet-connected laptop since day one.
Rather than try typing with my thumb and limit myself to some 100 characters
on my phone (and get charged for each email), I can update from my gmail
account.
Now, maybe you think I'm still an idiot, because why am I not just going
straight to SG and updating, and responding to comments and the whole thing?
Well this is my aunt and uncle's laptop. I would consider it rude to call up
Quinne's naked body on their laptop and have it hiding away in their cache.
Not to mention other nudity in the form of the thumbnails for the daily sets
and stuff. Besides, my 14-year-old cousin has been using this laptop too. I
don't want her to freak out. So, email updates, and no comment replies until
I get back. You can email me via the contact tab though if you want. ANYway.
What did we do today? Oh well I woke up feeling pretty sick. My stomach was
quite unhappy. Not sure what that was about. Mom announced, as I was waking
up, that my aunt wanted to go to the diner a short distance down the
boardwalk for breakfast. I really really wanted to go so I pulled myself
together, took a shower feeling sick, got all dressed and we all went down.
In the entrance to the restaurant I had to practically sit down to try to
make my tummy hurt less. Then we were seated. Sitting was more comfortable
and I started feeling better. I ordered an egg sandwich with home fries
(they called them hash browns but they were NOT hash browns damn it) and I
ate the WHOLE thing (I haven't been eating enough recently so it was good).
After that we checked out the toy and kite store because my aunt needed some
swim shoes things... see, the whole beach is, like, brand new. The beach was
slowly disappearing in recent years, so they brought in a bunch of sand
(maybe from the ocean itself) and NOW the sand comes all the way up to the
boardwalk. There used to be steps down to the sand. Now you can just walk
straight from the boardwalk onto the beach. It's weird.
Anyway so the new beach is pretty rocky and has lots of shells in it, and if
you're trying to walk into the water there are a lot of hard pebbles and
rocks you have to step on. So my aunt was looking for swim shoes, like I
guess you'd wear that kind if you were surfing. (Surf shoes?)
The toy and kite store employee told us to go to a place called Sunsations
for the shoes. At this point my mom parted with us to go food shopping. We
continued on to Sunsations, where I got a little skirty thing to wear when
I'm wearing my bathing suit. I had forgotten the swim trunks that I
typically wear. Maybe you can figure out why I wear swim trunks. Moving on.
My aunt got her shoes. Bright yellow things. Then I had said I wanted to go
to the bookstore, because last night reading Siddhartha I realized I wanted
a copy for myself (my current copy I got through bookcrossing so I'd like to
send it on when I'm done). My English professor aunt told me which of the
many translations I should get (the one from Shambala press who she said I
should support), and I also got another Hesse novel, Steppenwolf (yes like
the band) and the much-hyped Life of Pi by Yann Martel.
I walked back by myself and some vacationy stuff happened that's too boring
to get into. We went to the pool and, whilst swimming, laughed and joked as
is our custom.
After that it was time for more beach-sitting. I read Siddhartha and played
Zelda: Minish Cap. I've been playing a LOT of Zelda
Mom and aunt
went into the water but that's not my thing so I sat there playing. When the
batteries died (I thought they would much sooner) mom and I went back up.
I checked my email and discovered to my delight that Hurricane Electric had set up my hosting (a million
thank yous Noctua). Now you can see my "coming soon" page at
http://whale.he.net/anilyn81 and discover to your horror that I'm making...
AN ANNIE FAN PAGE!!!!!! Oh God! Nooooooo! Yes, it's true. I registered
annieverse.com <http://annieverse.com> for it. Groan. Well it's not
surprising is it? But whatever.
I went to namescout to switch the nameserver stuff and I guess in a few days
(hopefully no longer than that) you can access the site from
annieverse.com<http://annieverse.com>.
Now I need to figure out how to do subdomains, but I guess it's the same as
with my current host (where I only just discovered how to do subdomains).
Easy Mac for lunch and a lazy afternoon.
Earlier this evening Mom wanted to walk on the sand and maybe do DDR so I
went out with her. The toy and kite store had a bunch of kites and a giant
windsock tied down on the beach in front of their store and I waffled about
going back up to get the camera. I didn't at first. We walked a little way
and saw a big crowd on the beach. I think I went and got my camera at this
point, took pictures of the kites, a picture of the new signs in front of
the beach, and later on a mer-horse made of sand a little down the way.
The large crowd was watching a lifeguard competition (there were kids
competing too) and we looked briefly then moved on, getting on the
boardwalk. Bought some refreshments and were irked by the crowds for being
crowdy and annoying (I hate crowds... agoraphobia anyone?) and we walked
back. Someone had stepped on the mer-horse by then
Now we're home and I'm typing this. People are watching TV and I cannot
stand TV so I have my earplugs in. I just downloaded AIM and I want to see
if Redbeard3 is on. We don't do anything in the evenings anyway
unless we go to expensive restaurants for dinner like last night (where I
discovered that my cousin likes Annie!) so it should be ok for me to chat.
Other people will be vying for internet so I can't sit here undisturbed for
hours like at home. Probably for the best.
And that, friends, is where I shall sign off for the night. Speaking of
night, night time has been kind of rough. For one, mom and I have to sleep
in the same bed because this unit, unlike the one we've had the past few
years, only has one bed in the back bedroom. For another, there are some sad
things on my mind that I can't forget about when I'm lying there trying to
sleep.
Otherwise, this vacation has been pretty nice these first few days. I forsee
we'll get bored by mid-week. We'll see.
Take care everyone!
