HA! HA! HA! I created a Greasemonkey script that corrects any misspellings of "definite" and "definitely" on any web page. Take that, losers! (Firefox only. See here for installation instructions.)
Lisa: "Id", triple-word score!
Homer: No abbreviations.
Lisa: Not I.D., Dad, "id". It's a word!
Bart: As in "this game is stoop-id''.
I pulled off the Minus World trick in the original Super Mario Bros. three times!
What is the Minus World trick, you ask?
If you have ever played the original Super Mario Bros., you might know that if you walk along the ceiling at the end of the first underground level, 1-2, you reach three warp pipes that take you to worlds 4, 3, and 2. The Minus World trick involves exploiting a bug that allows you to reach these warp pipes before the "WELCOME TO WARP ZONE" message appears. If you do this, the far left and far right pipes will take you to world... -1!!!
What is world -1? Well, the actual number is supposed to be 36-1, based on the bogus data the game reads when you reach this world. It is underwater level 7-2 (although for me it resembled an underwater level much earlier in the game...), except that when you go through the pipe at the end that is supposed to take you above-ground... you get warped back to the beginning of the level! This means that you are trapped there forever and will eventually die when the timer runs out.
How do you get to world -1, you ask? You have to reach the pipe at the end of world 1-2 (the one you reach if you don't walk on the ceiling). Whatever you do, don't break the rightmost block above the pipe. You can break the block just to the left of it. Then, you have to face left and jump towards the right, into that block you didn't break, without breaking it. I have read that you can't be pressing right when you hit that block. Also, you can make it work by jumping in a crouching position towards that block, and making sure to bump into the pipe to the right. This second method is how I got it to work for me. If you do it correctly, you will get caught in the block and will slide towards the right, through the wall. Don't press any buttons as you do this or you may get unstuck and have to try again. After sliding through the wall, you reach the warp zone before the warp zone message appears, and the left and right pipe will take you to world -1. (Be sure not to go too far to the right, or the "warp zone" message will appear and it won't work.) If you take the middle pipe down, it takes you to world 5.
There is more fun if you have the Japanese Famicom Disk System version of Super Mario Bros. I have only read about this. You can reach a Minus World that is level 1-3, which is normally an above-ground level, but using the Minus World trick it becomes an underwater level using the underwater palette, so the colors are all funky. There are other weird glitches, too. In a screenshot in the Minus World Wikipedia article, you see that Princess Toadstool is standing in the middle of the level! Freaky! After passing through this world -1, you reach -2, which is the same as 7-3, but it takes you to -3 if you complete it. -3 is level 4-4, normally a Bowser's Castle level, but it's underwater with the underwater palette again, has Bloobers, and has no Bowser. If you finish this level you are taken to the title screen where you can pick a world with B, and it will be with hard difficulty, just as if you beat the game.
I find this sort of thing fascinating! I thought it was pretty cool to reach the Minus World myself, and I'm hoping I can find a Famicom Disk System ROM of Super Mario Bros. so I can experience the freakier Minus Worlds described above.
Fun fact: The underwater level music in Super Mario Bros. scares me. In fact, the underwater levels scare me in general. Making the Minus World trick even more creepy. I guess there's something about a plumber swimming without breathing amongst huge squid and dopey-looking fish with pink coral and sky blue blocks and carousel-like music that's scary. I think it's mostly to do with the music. I've been humming it recently, and it's creepy.
Have you ever been to ProgressiveBoink? I like Mike's articles. There is a video of him doing a speed run through Super Mario Bros. He finishes the game in 5 1/2 minutes. This is not the fastest time ever, but it's impressive. There is also a video of him playing the Heat Man stage of Mega Man II without using any items or powers. His articles are generally pretty good and his profanity usage is kept to a minimum.
I find profanity and other crudenesses to be really irritating and unnecessary, especially when it occurs every few sentences/words. I have a lot of respect for people who can be funny without doing this.
Be warned: there are some mind-numbingly stupidly written articles on ProgressiveBoink. I've seen several that make references to incest/pedophilia/other forms of child abuse within the first few sentences. Not funny, people!
I'm not really familiar with humor sites like that, but I get the feeling that sort of crude stuff is the norm, which is sad.
I had my first class today. I felt a little lost, but I won't give up. I managed to do the first homework problem (due Wednesday) and the others should be easy once I remember the asymptotic rules or whatever. I hope I can do this....

I should look at Greasemonkey, because there are a few spelling errors that grate my teeth the way misspellings of definitely do for you. Things like 'should of'. *shudder* I haven't played much with the cool things Firefox can do, which is a shame. Unfortunately, a lot of the work I do, I have to make sure the code can run on a broad set of browsers. Bleh.

I agree!
