Ring from MollyMolly
For much of Thursday I had the Sugababes "Freak Like Me" stuck in my head (which I have courtesy of owning Richard X's X-Factor Vol. 1 [I bought it for "Just Friends" in which Annie provides spoken vocals]).
Despite the critical acclaim lavished on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, I'm really not into most of it. *shrug*
I think I may well buy some Biggie Smalls/Notorious B.I.G./&c. songs from the iTunes store. Maybe some Burt Bacharach compositions I haven't heard before. Oh, and Ludacris, maybe. Beach Boys. Talking Heads. I might try The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, but the iTunes store doesn't have it. Too vulgar/misogynistic, maybe? What about Deee-lite? Jay-Z?
I can't seem to get into Fiona Apple. A friend sent me Tidal, and it just isn't grabbing me. He sent me Joanna Newsom's The Milk-Eyed Mender, too, and it's not doing it for me. It's not her voice; that I can handle. I guess it's just the style of the songs that I'm not into.
I seem to be getting back into The Beatles, though. Help! is a pretty great album, I have to say. I still maintain that they aren't as brilliant as some seem to think, but they wrote good music.
I love Basia! She rocks! From what I read of her Wikipedia article, though, it sounds like she dropped off the face of the musical Earth for a long time, and recently resurfaced with Matt Bianco, in whom I have no interest (should I?). I had no idea her real name was Barbara! I love Wikipedia. (She doesn't look like a Barbara.
)
I'm glad I'm using iTunes! I'm listening to/getting interested in music again!
Ooh what about The Pretenders?? Or Pat Benatar???? The Jackson Five!!! The B-52s!!!!
I bought a few Jackson Five songs. Maybe I should listen to the previews of their other stuff so I can get beyond "ABC", "I Want You Back", and "Dancing Machine".
You know, I have to admit, that Morrissey concert mom dragged me to back in June was pretty great.

You can get the full Essential Logic song at Kill Rock Stars:

I also dig "Aint You" by Kleenex, a similar-era band who were forced to change their name to Liliput by a certain company.
