BOURGEOIS.

^ I was trying to use Word spell check to make sure I had the word right, but they never got a red squiggly underline below them. I guess I got confused because I was sure I had them wrong, so I thought the program was malfunctioning or something. Durr. (<— Misspelled.)

I'm sorry I didn't reply to some of the comments you left me. I'm not sure I can, right now.

I got two lovely and unexpected surprises today upon returning home. First I checked the mailbox and there was a package for me: the copy of Final Fantasy VII I won on eBay a week or so ago!

And then, thinking that was the last of the surprises, I ascended the staircase up to our landing, and saw quite a large box there by the door. I tipped it up and moved it around, seeing no shipping label. Finally I looked at the underside (a narrow part) and there was the label; it was from the company I'd ordered the turntable from, the one I had to send back (it wouldn't turn). I was holding in my hands my replacement turntable.

I had called customer service last week, because it had been a few weeks since I'd returned the turntable. I know they got it; the package tracking said they got it a few days after I sent it. When I called, they revealed it was on backorder (again; the first time I ordered it, it was also on backorder and they didn't think they could get it to me by Christmas, but they actually did. Unfortunately it didn't work.) They couldn't give me an estimated time of when it would come back in stock, so I figured it would be weeks and weeks before I saw a new turntable.

But now, here it is. Needless to say, I rushed into my room, ripped that sucker open, set it all up, flipped it on, and (the moment of truth) moved the arm over the turntable.

AND IT TURNED!!!

FINALLY I have a working turntable. I christened it with my 45 of Soulful Strut by Young Holt Unlimited like I had wanted to when I got the first one (Soulful Strut is an R&B instrumental from the '60s you've probably heard before but never knew the name of), and played mom's Rumours LP next (that thing is seriously warped; I'm going to try to buy a new copy at some point. The sleeve is all water-damaged too.)

I guess with it being past 10pm it's a little late to be playing music but I'd like to spin my other Motown 45s soon. Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing... I Second That Emotion... Some Day We'll Be Together... great stuff. I need more vinyl now. I have other stuff: Thriller, some Madonna 12"s, a Janet Jackson remix 12", all of mom's 45s (I'll be giving back the ones I'm not interested in, which is probably most of them), oh and mom let me have her LP of Dare by the Human League. I'll probably play that one after the Motown 45s, mostly for Don't You Want Me because that is one of my all-time favorite songs ever (note my "occupation").

I just updated my fantasy. I don't know how, or when, but it has to happen. Some day, it has to.

Turntables are fan-tas-tic. It's interesting to look at people who are fanatical about 8-track, and then see how vinyl lovers act in a similar way, hoarding and cherishing. Can you imagine anyone getting all excited about buying a cassette tape player years from now?

Oh, anyway, a belated thankyou for the birthday greeting (and the classic croc/bunny doodle - I grinned!). I hate being away from the internet and not being able to explain to people why I'm not around.

ANYWAY.

How's tricks? Did you get a new place sorted out in the end? I only ask because I'm too lazy to read a ton of past posts. blush

Okay...okay...I'll go read the old posts...*tail between legs*

Somewhere in the world, I have an entire crate of somewhat rare alternative vinyl...maybe it can meet your swanky new turntable some day...
